CAT CutoffCAT Cutoff 2018 - The cutoff of CAT 2018 refers to the minimum marks or percentile a test taker must obtain in order to qualify for the next round of selection process. IIMs and other participating institutes will release the CAT cutoff 2018 to shortlist the candidates for the selection procedure. CAT will be conducted by IIM Calcutta on November 25, the result will be announced in the second week of January. CAT 2018 cutoff depends on various factors such as total number of test takers, difficulty level of the exam, total number of seats, etc. Candidates who are planning to appear for CAT 2018 exam must qualify the sectional as well as the overall cutoff in order to get shortlisted for the next rounds of the selection process – WAT-GD/PI. CAT is conducted every year by IIMs on a rotational basis for admission MBA/PGDM course offered by IIMs and 100 other top B-schools in the country. CAT Cutoff 2018 - Determining Factors

 

The cutoff percentile/marks of any exam depend on various factors. Some of the factors determining CAT 2018 cutoff are mentioned below:

  • Difficulty level of exam

  • Number of test takers

  • Number of candidates qualifying for the next rounds

  • Number of seats

  • Institute repute or ranking 

Usually, the CAT cutoff for old IIMs and top B-schools such as FMS (University of Delhi), MDI Gurgaon, SPJIMR Mumbai, etc. goes over 99 percentile. New IIMs including IIM Sambalpur, IIM Ranchi, etc. and other top B-schools have cutoff 90 percentile and above. On the other hand, the cutoff for B-schools belonging to tier two to four range from 80 to 50 percentile.

Now let us take a look at the expected CAT cutoff of non-IIM CAT participating institutes.

 

CAT Cutoff for Various Colleges

As the CAT cutoff depends largely on the difficulty level of the exam, it’s important to know that the exam last year was moderately tough on the difficulty scale.

 

After the CAT 2018 result is declared in the second week of January 2019, participating institutes will shortlist candidates based on their cutoffs and other CAT eligibility criteria. Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for the selection procedure of CAT which includes Writing Ability Test (WAT) or Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. Approximately 4000 seats are offered by 20 IIMs through CAT exam.
