Write to IIMs for CAT Answer Key release! Join Careers360 campaign for transparency in CAT
Careers360 has written an Open Letter to all IIMs, seeking their response to Common Admission Test (CAT) takers’ doubts related to transparency in the national level MBA entrance test. We support students’ demand for CAT answer key release for better transparency in the test.
But, the position that IIMs have taken on holding back the answer keys and response sheets is in complete violation of the SC order passed on August 9, 2011. In its order, the apex court states that the provisions of the RTI Act will prevail over the provisions of the by-laws/rules of the examining bodies regarding examinations.

Prof Rajendra K Bandi,
CAT 2016 Convenor,
Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore
Ever since CAT turned into a computer-based test, the question papers have not been made accessible to candidates. This raises a doubt on the credibility of CAT evaluation and scoring process as the test takers do not get any chance to revisit test questions and predict their scores. Candidates only get their final scores which they are asked not to doubt.
Sir, IIMs have also denied CAT takers access to their own raw scores despite a Supreme Court (SC) order asking public examination authorities to release evaluated response sheets carrying raw scores. IIMs have been evading CAT answer key requests and other RTI requests related to the CAT evaluation process in the name of RTI exemption clauses. However, this does not stand legal scrutiny as the SC order relating to the answer key release states that “no exemption under section 8 is available in respect of evaluated answer books” and hence “the examining bodies will have to permit inspection sought by the examinees.”
Thus, the position that you have taken on holding back the answer keys and response sheets is in complete violation of the SC order passed on August 9, 2011, where the apex court states that the provisions of the RTI Act will prevail over the provisions of the by-laws/rules of the examining bodies regarding examinations. Here, I would also like to remind you that the SC in its crucial order maintains that the response sheet, which is evaluated by exam authorities, is a record of information which essentially falls under the purview of RTI.
Further, IIMs also cite commercial interest of testing partners as the reason behind not allowing candidates to access raw scores. On different occasions in the past, IIMs have argued that the announcement of answer keys/response sheet or allowing access to raw scores will create confusion among the test takers.
None of the above logics stand in the face of the SC order in this regard.
Sir, I hope you are aware that it is a standard practice with many top exams in India to release answer keys. It is done for exams like UPSC Civil Services, JEE Main and NEET where the numbers are much higher than CAT. For example, JEE Main is taken by more than 12 lakh candidates which is about six times the volume of CAT takers. So, the number of CAT test takers should not be a reason for not releasing CAT answer keys and question paper.
I strongly believe that access to the three documents – CAT question paper, CAT answer key and answer sheet, will build a higher level of trust between CAT takers and IIMs.
I, therefore, request you to immediately take action towards releasing CAT answer key for bringing transparency in the CAT testing and evaluation process.

Background: Where is transparency missing in CAT?
It has been seven years since the Common Admission Test (CAT) was turned into a computer-based test with multiple testing slots. During this period, the scope of this national level MBA entrance exam has only widened with increased capacity of existing IIMs and addition of 12 new IIMs. Unfortunately, along this journey, doubts related to transparency of the testing system have mounted. Careers360 has reported in detail the different CAT transparency issues raised by the CAT takers and experts.

Questions related to CAT
I am general cat Jharkhand girl student with jee main percentile of about 90.5 in 2020 so can I get bit sindhri?
As you have secured 90.5 percentile score in JEE mains from general category then your all India rank must be around 105000. Now if you want to take admission in BIT Sindri on the basis of your general category all India rank then yes, you can get admission in BIT Sindri as per seeing the last year cutoff Trends.
Here is the last year (2019) cutoff Trends for general category students on the basis of their all India rank for BIT Sindri for all branches :-
Mechanical engineering - 85548
Electrical engineering - 86089
Production engineering - 128980
Metallurgy - 96231
Chemical engineering - 121628
Civil engineering - 99706
Electronics and communication engineering - 69402
Information technology - 66486
Mining engineering - 107097
Computer science and engineering - 49946
So as you can see this year there is a chance that you can easily get chemical engineering, production engineering and mining engineering. But the chances are very hard for you to get civil engineering and metallurgy branch in BIT Sindri.
I got 346 marks.My air is 252953.My cat Rank is 27,147.Can i get seat?
You have provided all the details but have missed out mentioning the category itself,, considering you as General, from your profile it seems you belong to Telangana, chances for GMC is quite difficult in your case and further taking into consideration the fact that there are greater chances of cut-offs increasing this year make it more tough, you should try other options of private colleges or deemed universities regarding this, cutoffs vary every year based on multiple factors such as seat matrix, marks obtained in exam, toughness level of paper, total number of candidates participating in the exam etc. check out previous year cut-offs at https://medicine.careers360.com/articles/neet-cutoff-telangana , to know more about admission possibilities in various colleges you can use our NEET College Predictor; https://medicine.careers360.com/neet-college-predictor?icn=QnA&ici=qna_answer

My branch is Electrical Engineering and in my college i have very less chance of placements . So what jobs should i go for so that it could be counted as work experience if I want to go for CAT exam ?
For MBA , work experience is not compulsory. You can get into MBA colleges without a work experience. It's like good food placed in a good plate. If you have a work experience you will get a good job or with more package . Otherwise it will depend on your academics.
