MAT Selection ProcedureMAT Selection Procedure 2018 - The selection procedure of MAT 2018 September consists of Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI) and or Written Ability Test (WAT) rounds. The selection process starts after the result of MAT 2018 is announced which will be declared on or after September 21. Candidates would be able to check the result on the official website of AIMA using their MAT Registration Number and Roll Number. Right after the result, candidates are first shortlisted on the basis of their MAT result or cutoff. The shortlisted students are called by the institutes in which they have applied for admission. Such students have to follow the Selection procedure of MAT 2018 and the cumulative performance at all the selection stages will lead to the admission offer. The selection procedure of MAT 2018 goes through basic three steps. First, candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their MAT score and then they are called for the following rounds:

As per the MAT Participating Institutes, there are more than 600 B-schools in the country which accept MAT score for their admission process. Some of the institutes may conduct all the three rounds before announcing the final selection and some might conduct only two.


Some of the institutes give more weightage to WAT over GD while some prefer PI over WAT and GD. The objective of giving preference to WAT over GD is to ensure that all candidates are at the same level playing field and chances of soft-spoken candidates are not marred.


The final admission list of the institutes is made on the basis of candidate’s performance in the various selection rounds of MAT selection procedure.


When does MAT Selection Procedure start?


MAT 2018 selection procedure starts after the result of the exam is announced and institutes shortlist the candidates on the basis of their MAT score/cutoff. The result of MAT 2018 May has been announced on May 25. Candidates can use their Registration Number and Roll Number to download the result. The result of MAT September 2018 will be declared on or after September 21, 2018.


MAT is conducted by AIMA four times a year - February, May, September and December. MAT September 2018 will be conducted on September 2 and September 15 in offline and online mode. The last date to apply for offline mode is August 24 and for online mode, September 8.  


MAT is a national level management entrance test for admission to MBA/PGDM programme at various management institutes across the country.
