MAT 2025 Exam Data Analysis & Sufficiency Questions

Explore the most common data analysis and sufficiency question types in MAT 2025, including charts, tables, and caselets, and learn how to solve them quickly and accurately for the December session.

Questions Based on Data Sufficiency

After examining some of the previous years' MAT questionnaires, we can say that about 5-10 data sufficient questions are commonly asked. The difficulty level of the questions is easy.

Questions Based on Graphs

Some questions in the MAT Data Analysis & Sufficiency section are based on different types of graphs such as pie charts, bar graphs, line graphs, combination graphs, and tables. The combination of graphs involves the combination of two or more types of graphs like Pie + Bar, Line + Bar, Table + Pie, etc.

When solving graph-based questions, one should focus on the basics of data interpretation. The data given for such questions need to be easily understood with a real-life situation, use options, scan, and avoid choosing the right options. This includes understanding whether the data is complete or relative. Time management is essential in this category.

Questions Based on Caselet

In the MAT exam, there is usually a caselet with four to five questions, as seen in some of the MAT question papers of previous years, the caselet questions are more time-consuming. Try the caselet questions at the end.

Questions Based on Data Comparison

The difficulty level of data comparison questions is easy in MAT. It is better to try data comparison questions before trying data interpretation questions.

Tips to Score Good in MAT 2025 Data Analysis and Sufficiency

  • Read all the questions very carefully before trying. Understand the data presentation and read the answer options.
  • Do not read the answer options first as they may cloud your judgment while reading the question.
  • Remember tables up to 20, squares, square roots, cubes, etc. to save time in calculation.
  • Do not make assumptions in data analysis and sufficiency questions because they are data-based.
  • There is a negative score in the MAT December session exam, so it is important to remember that candidates should not attempt unanswerable questions with 100 percent accuracy.

Common Mistakes to Avoid in MAT 2025 Data Analysis & Sufficiency

Some of the common mistakes made by the candidates while answering the data sufficiency and data interpretation questions in the December session of MAT exam include:

  1. Misinterpreting Data: Carefully read and interpret graphs, charts, and tables to ensure you're drawing accurate conclusions from the data presented.

  2. Overcomplicating Solutions: Avoid overthinking or using overly complex methods to solve problems. Stick to simple and straightforward approaches to save time and reduce the chances of errors.

  3. Skipping Data Sufficiency Rules: Remember that in data sufficiency questions, you only need to determine if the given data is sufficient to answer the question, not actually solve it. Focus on analyzing the sufficiency of the data rather than solving the problem entirely.

  4. Rushing Through Questions: Take the time to thoroughly read and understand each question before attempting to answer. Rushing can lead to misinterpretation and mistakes.

  5. Neglecting Practice: Regular practice is crucial for becoming familiar with different types of data analysis and sufficiency questions. Without consistent practice, you may struggle with the variety of questions on the exam.

  6. Forgetting to Verify Answers: Always double-check your calculations and answers. Simple mistakes can often be caught and corrected with a quick review.

  7. Ignoring Time Management: Manage your time wisely during the exam to ensure you have enough time to attempt all questions. Allocate specific time limits for each question and stick to them to avoid rushing at the end.

Meaning of MAT, SAT and NMMS Exam Pattern

1. MAT (Mental Ability Test):
It checks logical thinking, reasoning ability, patterns, series, puzzles, and problem-solving skills of students.

2. SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test):
It tests knowledge of subjects like Science, Social Science, and Mathematics that students study in school.

3. Number of Questions in NMMS Exam:

  • MAT section → 90 questions

  • SAT section → 90 questions

  • Total → 180 questions

All questions are multiple-choice type (MCQs).

Hello,

Thank you for your question!

KL- MAT syllabus: Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, English/Verbal Ability, and General Awareness (similar to MAT/CMAT pattern).

CAT scores are valid in many private universities including KL University, but always check the year’s admission notification.

CAT vs other exams: CAT is toughest (IIMs + top B-schools), while MAT/CMAT/ATMA are relatively easier and accepted by many mid-level private universities.

Hello it will clear your doubt!

Hi,

MAR stands for Marks and Academic Record. This is a summary of your academic performance, especially during admission or counselling. It includes the list of subjects studied like Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Maths, English etc , marks obtained in each subject, total marks, percentage, year of passing, and board name (CBSE, State Board, ISC, etc.). MAR helps authorities verify that you meet the eligibility criteria for the course you're applying to, and it’s often required at the time of document verification during admissions.

If you’ve given the MAT exam and want admission in an MBA program through government colleges in Kolkata, here’s what you need to know:

Several government or government-aided institutes in Kolkata accept MAT scores for MBA admission. However, most top government colleges in West Bengal prefer CMAT, CAT, or JEMAT scores. That said, some colleges may consider MAT scores in specific quotas or for leftover seats.

Though you can consider:

  • Bengal Institute of Business Studies (semi-government)

  • NSHM Knowledge Campus (Kolkata)

  • Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM) – sometimes considered semi-govt/private

  • Army Institute of Management (for defense background)

For purely government institutes like Calcutta University (Dept. of Business Management) or IISWBM, MAT is usually not accepted — they require CAT or JEMAT.
