Careers360: What do you want to do after your MBA?
Aman Dhawan: I aspireto become an exceptional HR manager, and to reach the higher echelons of the business world. MBA would redirect and escalate my career prospects and will add value to my skill set that would let me thrive in the corporate world.
Careers360: Why did you choose to join MDI Gurgaon?
Aman Dhawan: MDI is a brand in itself, MDI was the most lucrative offer I had, more so because I wanted to specialize in HR for which MDI is one of the best among all. The alumni, placements, location factor and the talent pool that MDI attracts is what made me choose this institute.
Careers360: Which other institutes made you final admission offers?
Aman Dhawan: I applied to a very few colleges. The institutes I secured admission were MDI, FMS Delhi and IMT Ghaziabad.
Careers360: What was your preparation strategy for CAT 2013?
Aman Dhawan: My strategy for CAT was to build on my strengths but not to ignore my weaknesses in the preparation process. It is important that you practice hard to turn your weaknesses into strength as it is said that ‘Practice makes a man perfect’. I had a clear idea about which topic is more significant compared to others, but I also focused on other topics as well.
Careers360: How important is Coaching or Mentoring to crack CAT or other management aptitude tests?
Aman Dhawan: Coaching is an ‘add-on’ advantage to give you a right direction. Not only this, the classes and mock test teach you few tricks which are not available in any book. But coaching is absolutely not essential to crack CAT. I would suggest if one has a good mentor and good knowledge about the pattern of the exam, it is not necessary to take coaching.
But, also, joining at least one test series of a reputed coaching institute surely supports you in your preparations.
Careers360: How did you manage the CAT preparation with your regular schedule and graduation studies?
Aman Dhawan: To manage preparation with graduation one needs to manage time well. My advice would be to get a planning diary and write the tasks you would want to do in a day, and until next day make sure that you completed what you planned. A well planned study plan is a key to complete the preparation on time.
Careers360: Please share your preparation strategy for the Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning separately?
Aman Dhawan: For QA and DI, I used to practice 30-40 questions per day. DI is all about practice while QA is about understanding the concepts for which again I would say practice is always the best option.
Careers360: Were there any Time Management tricks you followed in the exam?
Aman Dhawan: I went to the exam with an open mind and analyze the difficulty level of different sections. In English section, I would say never leave Reading Comprehensive section for the end as one might lose focus which can cost you a lot of time wastage.
Careers360: What was your toughest or weakest section of the exam? How did you prepared for your weak areas?
Aman Dhawan: For me the weakest section was verbal ability, excluding RC’s. There are different questions like para-jumbles, sentence completion, grammar, fill in the blanks and context usage of a word. And to overcome my weak points I practiced, which is the key to success.
Careers360: How did you divide your timings between preparation and recreational activities? What were the activities that you did besides preparing for the exam?
Aman Dhawan: It is rather important for every student to indulge into an activity which can keep the mind fresh and active. For me recreational activities were sports and reading books. I was able to find an hour or so for sports everyday while I was preparing for CAT. My reading habits also proved to be a plus point as it gave me an edge over students who did not read. I like watching inspirational, comedy and even horror movies. One of my favorite movies is Jobs (2013). Steve jobs being my idol, the role of Steve jobs in the movie was extremely inspiring.
Careers360: What is your advice for the MBA aspirants who will take CAT 2014?
Aman Dhawan: One thing that really matters for a prominent exam like CAT is self confidence. Do not lose morale if you are unable to attempt few questions in the starting, move on, there must be easier questions to be answered. Selection of questions is of immense importance and this is where an average student is distinguished from a student’s who is following a well managed strategy.

I noticed yesterday that my DOB is wrong in the form.I mailed the authorities but they said noting can be done.Has anyone faced such a problem before? Were they able to give the exam?Did it affect the later process? Is there any solution to this? KIndly help me out.I prepared diligently for this(CAT)
see you should be very careful while applying for any exam or form filling. however you may still get the admit card and participate in the exam. but at the time of document verification you have to face questions about the wrong dob. later it would be solely depends on the exam authority whether they would accept the application or not.

can a ews category student apply for private medical college? and is the fees same for gen cat. and ews cat. student for private medical college?
The EWS category is an official reservation category that needs to be considered for admission into every college. So college consider EWS category also as other category. You can surely apply for private medical College.
Most of the colleges doesn't have fees as per the reservation. The fees seems to be same for every student. There might be some college that may offer scholarship to reserved category students .
Hope that helps.
