Careers360: What was your main objective behind pursuing Management Programme? What are your aspirations?
Ujjwal I was always fascinated by Finance as a specialization and my desire to pursue it further on a professional level prompted me to go for a management programme. My immediate aspiration is to secure for myself a role of an investment banker in one of the top IB firms.
Careers360: What was your preparation strategy for IIFT 2014?
Ujjwal I took it section by section. For Quantitative Analysis, I used the book by Arun Sharma. For improving my verbal abilities, I referred the book ‘Word Power Made Easy’. I kept myself updated by listening to news. That helped in preparing for the General Awareness section. For the Logical Reasoning and Data interpretation, I did not do any specific preparation.
Careers360: How did you manage IIFTpreparation schedule along with graduation studies?
Ujjwal I prepared for almost a year for the test and gave around 1- 1.5 hours on an average towards preparation. The area of preparation spanned over Quants, Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension, and reading newspapers on a daily basis.
Careers360: Please share your section wise preparation strategy.
Ujjwal For Quants I did quantum CAT and the coaching institute material that I had. As far as English goes I did Word power made easy by Normal Lewis. I indulged myself in the habit of reading newspaper daily that helped me to prepare for two sections, General Awareness and Reading Comprehension.
Careers360: How did you prepare for your weak areas?
Ujjwal My weak area was general awareness. So for this I read various newspapers; in fact I expedited the reading that I had to do and I also browsed several magazines in the last two months.
Careers360: What was your Time Management formula while taking the actual IIFTpaper?
Ujjwal I believe that IIFT is one such test that challenges you extensively on this very front. So it becomes imperative to manage your time. I divided my time so as to cater to all the sections and tried my best to attempt as many questions as possible. So my advice is to play by your strength and maximize your score in 1-2 section while at the same time ensure that you clear the threshold in every section.
Careers360: How did you prepare for further rounds of admission?
Ujjwal For WAT, I referred to essays from IIM. For Group Discussion and Personal Interview, I read up all the important current affairs, particularly the last two months. I read magazines like India Today and Competition Success Review. Apart from these, reading newspapers regularly always helps.
In addition, I read up topics like Trade and Finance.
Careers360: How did you divide your timings between preparation and recreational activities?
Ujjwal I am a passionate writer so I used to write for my blogs and as far as recreational activities involve I enjoy playing volleyball which I did along with my preparation as I was in the final year of my undergraduate college.
Careers360: What is your advice for the Management aspirants who will take IIFT 2015?
Ujjwal: IIFT as I perceive is a paper that checks you on how quick you are i.e. Speed with Accuracy. So it becomes essential to divide your time amongst all the sections equally. And then maximize your score in one of the domains.

Is iift consider your past academics record
since you did not mention any particular course I would give you details about iift mba admission process. iift considers to be an Indian best academic institute which offers two years master of business administration course. it has delhi and kolkata campus. admission is based on the entrance exam conducts by NTA iift ADMISSION TEST. the test comprises of the questions from gk, general ability, quantitative aptitude, verbal reasoning, english. based on entrance exam score candidaates are shortlisted and called for gd and personal interview rounds. however selection would be based on candidates performance and interpersonal skills in gd or Pi rounds. however there is little impact of past academic records.
hope you may understand.
3.5 months are enough to crack CAT and IIFT exams ? Can anyone suggest me the study plan ? I am targetting maximum 97% in CAT and 145 marks in IIFT.
Sectional Division of Overall Preparation
Know your strengths along with weaknesses
Accept the importance of previous year question papers
Coaching or self-preparation
If you are preparing for CAT exam on a serious note, there won't be any problem preparing for IIFT too, provided you know the correct strategy for it! only the strategy of how you should play in the required format changes. So is the case with IIFT and other similar entrance exams apart from the CAT.
Firstly, from this year onwards, IIFT is conducted by NTA, so for the first time this year, IIFT will be conducted online just like any other MBA entrance exams! So there are two pros mainly I can think of -
- We don't have to spend our time circling the answers.
- We don't have to separately get accustomed to the paper based format from now.
This exam mainly consists of six sections -
- Reading Comprehension
- Verbal Ability
- Data Interpretation
- Logical Reasoning
- Quantitative Ability
Hope it helps
Thank you & Good Luck!!!
Which one is better , IIM Ranchi or IIFT Kolkata?
In my opinion IIM RANCHI is far better than iift kolkata because tag matters in life. If you get passed out from IIM then beleive me you can work in abroad easily. But in case of IIFT KOLKATA you will not get that reputation. Also placement statistics is far better than iift kolkata and high chances of getting selected as CEO of the company directly.
ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR FUTURE!!!
