Although some of the IIMs have announced their CAT cutoff and admission criteria, the actual cutoff often varies based on factors determining CAT cutoff. The CAT cutoff 2017 by IMS Learning experts would be based on those factors, on the basis of which candidates would be able to analyse their admission options even before the declaration of result. The factors which will determine the CAT 2017 cutoff are as follows:

- Number of test takers
- Number of seats
The difficulty level of CAT 2017 is moderate. DI & LR was the toughest section and QA was the easiest section. IIMs maintain the parity between question types and difficulty levels in both forenoon and afternoon slots in order to maintain CAT normalization process. The exam pattern of CAT 2017 has remained same as last year. The total marks is 300 (3 marks for each question). For each wrong answer, there will be one-third negative marking. Usually, the CAT cutoff for top B-schools exceeds 90 percentile as they look for candidates with higher competency. But for tier 2 and tier 3 B-schools, the CAT Cutoff ranges from 70-80 and around 50-60 percentile respectively.
CAT 2017 scores will be accepted by 20 IIMs and over 100 B-schools across India. The result of CAT 2017 will be declared in the second week of January 2018. This year, 2,31,067 candidates have applied for the test. The CAT participating institutes will shortlist candidates based on their cutoff, who have to participate in the selection procedure of CAT consisting Writing Ability Test (WAT) or Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds.
