    Work Experience

    Work experience is another major factor, which is not compulsory but significantly adds up to a candidate’s profile. IIMs usually give 10-15% weightage to the work experience of candidates. A candidate with a work experience of 24-36 months is usually given significant preference by IIMs for the MBA admissions. Candidates having no work experience are also preferred by IIMs but in IIMs like IIM Bangalore, work experience is given significant weightage.     Extra curriculars and achievements don’t hold any weightage while calculating the final composite score. Still, they make a candidate’s profile better and give an edge to the candidates without any prior work experience or excellent academic record. Hence, candidates who don’t have their academics or work experience in line can attempt the CAT 2026 exam if they have any other significant achievements.

    Academic Diversity

    IIMs give 4-5% weightage to candidates with academic diversity. For example- Candidates who have a non-engineering background in CAT. Candidates who are from an engineering background don’t get any academic diversity points. Also, IIM cutoffs are comparatively high for CAT appearing engineers because of their prior knowledge in QA, giving them an edge over other candidates.
