Factors Affecting IIM Waitlist Movement

IIM waitlist movement is influenced by the following factors such as:

  • MBA aspirants prefer old IIMs over new IIMs: Candidates give more priority over the old IIMs than new ones, because of the MBA salary packages and the quality of the curriculum offered.
  • Multiple admission offers received by the candidates: If the applicants receive multiple admission offers from different IIMs. Candidates choose one of them and deny the rest offers which causes IIM waitlist movement.
  • Batch size and IIM seat intake: The availability of IIM seats and the reservation policy followed by the IIMs in the admission process will raise the IIM waitlist movement.

What should I do if I am on the IIM Waitlist?

Some of the things to be kept in mind for the candidates who are in the IIM Waitlist:

  • Stay patient and monitor the latest updates from the respective IIMs: Candidates who are listed on the IIM waitlist do not need to become discouraged and lose hope in getting MBA admission in IIMs. There will be a last chance to get an IIM seat at the respective institute. Also, frequently check out the latest announcements and updates from the IIM by visiting the IIM official website and checking your mail daily.
  • Ensure all documents are ready for verification: Once the CAT results are out and candidates who meet the IIM CAT cut off marks must be ready with all the important documents related to academic, personal, work experience, category and others to be submitted for document verification.
  • Keep in touch with the IIM Admission cell: Maintain a connection with the IIM admission committee to let them know you are still interested in getting IIM admission at the respective institute by sending an email or visiting the campus directly.
  • Always have a plan B: A significant movement can happen closer to the academic session starts. If a candidate doesn’t get a seat at IIM, apply to the top MBA colleges accepting CAT scores in India.

Hello Aspirant,

Since your payment status shows "S" , it means your payment is successful. The "payment unsuccessful" message on the form is likely a temporary system error or a delay in updating.

Do not make another payment.

Making a second payment could cause a double debit, which is difficult to get a refund for. You should:

  1. Wait 24-48 hours for the status to update automatically.

  2. Download and save a copy of your form and a screenshot of the "S" payment status as proof.

  3. Check your bank statement to confirm the money has been debited.

  4. If the issue is not fixed after 48 hours, contact the official CAT helpdesk immediately with your transaction details.
