MBA Admission Via CAT 2026: Why Comparison is Crucial

CAT 2026 aspirants must know that having a high CAT percentile does not mean everything is sorted for the MBA 2027 admissions. Before applying, MBA aspirants should evaluate colleges based on CAT cutoff trends, compare tuition fees, average and median salary packages, specialisation offered by colleges, and more. While the IIMs continue to be the preferred choice for many CAT aspirants, several IITs and top B-schools also offer excellent academic quality and placements. Comparing these factors wil help candidates build a preferred colleges list based on their suitability and improve the chance of securing admission at the right MBA college.

Fee Comparison for IIMs, IITs, and Top 30 Colleges

MBA fees vary significantly across India's leading business schools, ranging from just over Rs. 2 lakh to more than Rs. 30 lakh for a two-year MBA programme. MBA Colleges CAT Cutoff

Admission to MBA colleges is highly competitive, with each college having its own eligibility criteria and acceptable MBA entrance exams. While IIMs and IITs admit candidates through the CAT exam, the 30 top management schools may also accept scores from exams such as XAT, SNAP, NMAT, CMAT, MAT, MICAT, GMAT, and institute-specific entrance tests. So the cutoff varies across IIMs, IITs, and top colleges.

    IIM CAT Cutoff

Getting into IIM is highly competitive as the cutoffs are usually high, especially for the flagship programs. The CAT cutoff is usually the first and most prominent criterion for shortlisting and selection, while academic performance, work experience, and interview scores are also considered. In the table below, MBA aspirants can see the past three years' CAT cutoffs for IIMs.

How to Choose the Right MBA College After CAT 2026?

Choosing an MBA college after CAT 2026 should not be based on percentile or college brand alone. Candidates should compare MBA fees, average and median salary, placement record, ROI, specialisations, location, admission criteria and career opportunities before finalising their preference list.

    • Check the total cost of MBA including tuition fee, hostel fee, mess charges and other costs.

    • Compare average and median packages to understand the college's placement outcomes and earning potential.

    • Calculate and compare the ROI of the colleges to identify MBA colleges that offer better value for money.

    • Do not only consider the qualifying cutoff. Shortlisting and final admission cutoffs can differ, and selection also depends on academics, work experience, category and interview performance.

    • Candidates must also check the location of the college, while analysing the MBA Colleges.

    • Check whether the institute offers the specialisation, industry exposure, location and placement opportunities relevant to your target career.

    • Instead of relying on one college, create a balanced preference list with ambitious, realistic and safer options based on your CAT percentile and profile.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Besides CAT cutoff, what factors should candidates compare before choosing an MBA college?

Q: Do all top MBA colleges accept only CAT 2026 scores?

While all IIMs and many IITs will admit candidates via CAT 2026, several top B-schools will also accept other entrance exams. For example, XLRI accepts XAT, NMIMS accepts NMAT, Symbiosis institutes accept SNAP, and MICA considers CAT/XAT along with MICAT for admission.

Q: Can I get admission to a good MBA college with an 85-90 CAT percentile?
    A:

Yes, candidates with 85 and 90 percentile can target several reputed MBA colleges, including IMT Ghaziabad, XIM University, TAPMI, FORE School of Management, BIM Trichy, GIM Goa, and some newer IIMs, depending on their category and overall profile.

Q: Which MBA college has the lowest fees and high placement package?
