The CAT registration 2026 window opened on August 3, 2026 and will remain open till September 15, 2026 at iimcat.ac.in. While registering for CAT 2026, candidates belonging to reserved categories (SC/ST/PwD/NC-OBC) will be required to submit their CAT 2026 caste certificates. The Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) and several other B-schools in India have CAT reservations for the lower categories as per the rule of Government. To take up the benefits of reservation, the CAT caste certificate 2026 becomes an important document as it’s the proof of a candidate belonging to a certain category. In case a candidate fails to submit the CAT caste certificate before the deadline, the candidate’s profile will be evaluated under the General (Unreserved) category. This means that the candidates belonging to the reserved category won’t be able to get the benefits of relaxation in cutoff percentile, eligibility criteria and seat reservation in the MBA colleges. In this article, we will discuss the CAT 2026 reservation documents, CAT 2026 category certificate submission deadlines and what happens if you miss any deadline.
The following category candidates fall under the reserved categories that require the supporting CAT category certificates for MBA admissions in India.
Scheduled Caste (SC)
Scheduled Tribe (ST)
Non Creamy Layer OBC (NC OBC)
Economically Weaker Sections (EwS)
Person With Disabilities (PwD)
IIMs and many other B-Schools in India have reservations for certain categories in India. The CAT caste certificates serve the purpose of an official proof which shows that a person belongs to a certain category and is eligible to take the benefits of reservation. The CAT caste certificates are important for several reasons.
They provide reservations in IIMs and many other B-schools.
Candidates with SC/ST certificates need to pay half of the CAT registration fees.
Relaxations in the CAT eligibility criteria (45% required in graduation instead of 50%)
Seats are also reserved in colleges during the final admission process.
The validity of your CAT caste certificate depends entirely on the type of your reservation and the category you belong to.
For categories like Non-creamy layer OBC (NC-OBC) and Economically weaker sections (EWS), a fresh certificate is needed to be issued, after April 1, 2026.
SC/ST certificate holds lifetime validity once issued from a central authority.
For PwD category candidates, the validity of CAT category certificate will be permanent in case of permanent disability only. If a candidate has temporary disability, the candidate will have to renew the certificate before its expiration.
Unlike the SC/ST CAT caste certificate, the NC-OBC CAT certificates do not hold a lifetime validity. A candidate applying for CAT 2026 will require a freshly issued NC-OBC CAT category certificate, issued after April 1, 2026. The NC-OBC caste certificate should confirm the Non-creamy status of the candidate and his/her inclusion in the central list. Make sure that the candidates don’t hold an old NC-OBC CAT category certificate as it won’t be considered eligible for CAT 2026 MBA admissions.
The CAT registration window will be closed on September 15, 2026. Hence, this date shall be considered as the deadline to submit the CAT application form as well as the category certificates along with that. In case a candidate fails to submit the category certificates before the deadline, he/she will be registered under the General (Unreserved) category. This means that the candidate won’t be able to claim the benefits that are accessible for the reserved category candidates. Also, once registered under the general category, the candidates won’t be able to change this later on. Hence, the candidates are advised to submit their CAT category certificates along with their CAT application form 2026.
Many candidates registering for CAT wonder whether they can submit the category certificate later or not. Well, it’s mandatory as per the authorities conduct CAT that the certificate letters get submitted before the registration window closes. Even though the final date gets extended for registration, candidates should not rely on that and complete their registration process as soon as they can. For CAT 2026, the registration window's last day will be September 15, 2026. Hence, the candidates are advised to get themselves registered for CAT 2026 before the deadline date and get their certificates submitted on time.

Hello Dear Student,
Low-Tier IIIT CSE vs Jadavpur University B.Arch (for MBA Aspirants)
If your primary goal is to pursue an MBA later, switching from CSE at a lower-tier IIIT to B.Arch at Jadavpur University solely for academic diversity is generally not the best strategy.

Hello Dear Student,
EWS eligibility for CAT 2025-26 hinges on current financial records, but a renewed certificate is required for final IIM admissions. If future income exceeds the 8 lakh threshold, candidates will likely lose EWS status and be reclassified to the General category rather than facing seat cancellation.
Hope
