What Is the IIM Shortlist 2026?

Each IIM produces one or more lists of applicants who will be invited for additional selection stages following the announcement of the CAT 2025 results, which typically occurs in late January or early February 2026. These shortlists are determined by cutoffs and criteria unique to the institute.

A shortlisted candidate from IIM may be qualified for:

• Individual Interviews (PI)

• Tests of Written Ability (WAT) (if applicable)

• Discussions in groups (GD) (very few institutes)

• Final evaluation of the merit list

Those who have met the initial qualifying requirements and are deemed competitive for admission to that IIM's PGP/MBA program are the shortlisted candidates.

Candidates can check their IIM PI/WAT shortlist by following these steps given below:

• Click on the “Admissions” or “PGP 2026–28” section

• Log in using CAT 2025 registration ID and password

• Download or view the PI/WAT shortlist PDF or dashboard notification

NOTE: IIMs do NOT send individual emails in many cases, so aspirants must regularly check official websites.

How IIM 2026 Shortlisting Works?

IIM Shortlist 2026 Stage 1: Eligibility & Minimum Cut-offs

Most IIMs set minimum CAT percentile cut-offs that candidates must meet to be considered for the next stage (PI/WAT). In the following table, we have mentioned the minimum CAT 2025 percentile along with the sectional cutoffs for the candidate to get an idea.

IIM Shortlist 2026 Stage 2: Profile & Composite Evaluation

After applicants are deemed eligible, several IIMs calculate a composite score by combining:

• CAT 2025 Percentile and Score

• Academic Achievement (10th, 12th, and Graduation)

• Experience at Work

• Academic and Gender Diversity

Different Admission Routes for IIM Admission 2026-28

• Independent Shortlisting by IIMs

Some of the leading IIMs, such as IIMA, IIMB, IIM-C, and IIML, carry out distinct procedures; list creation, interview calls, and final selection take place separately. For example, IIM Ahmedabad raised cut-offs for PGP 2026-28, making shortlists highly competitive.

• JAP 2026 (Joint Admission Process)

JAP 2026 is a centralised shortlisting route coordinated by IIM Raipur for some IIMs:

• IIM Tiruchirappalli

All candidates can register online after CAT results and are then shortlisted for PI.

• CAP 2026 (Common Admission Process)

Similar to JAP, CAP 2026 is another centralized route for a cluster of newer IIMs, such as:
