Careers360: How has been your experience in MDI Gurgaon?
Dr. Shrimali: The experience has been great in MDI. It is inspiring to do something new each day here, so much of operational freedom is provided! The learning process between a student and a teacher is open as well as interactive. The best part about MDI Gurgaon is that it allows students as well as the teachers to get accustomed to new trends in the industry and the focus here is always on the research.
Careers360: What are the short term goals of MDI Gurgaon? Have there been any challenges in fulfilling these goals?
Dr. Shrimali: There is no limit for our goals, we aim and receive what we want. We already are among the top B-schools of India and we target to become the top B-School of the world. Our short term goal is to get global in terms of curriculam, facilities, publications, faculty and students.
There has not been any challenge in achieving what we want. We have world class infrastructure, faculty and great students who would be leaders of tomorrow. Even in case we have any challenge, we can overcome it as a strong and intellegint team.
Careers360: While MDI Gurgaon has emerged as a top rung B-School, MDI Murshidabad , which was established in 2010 is yet to make its mark. What’s your take on that?
Dr. Shrimali: We don’t want to rush just for the sake of establishment for MDI Murshidabad. The institute is a CSR initiative and has few challenges which are to be overcome, like faculty, students, communication etc. We want world class infrastructure and global faculty for the students to excel in their management programme.
We want to deliver a pool of talents in MDI Murshiabad, crucial steps are being initiated to overcome the challenges we are facing. We want a 360 degree development, intelligent students, and infrastructure with high class facilities, teachers with a teaching aptitude, housing along with medical facilities and other requirements. I am sure MDI Murshidabad will make its mark soon.
Careers360: What about the recent placement trends in MDI Gurgaon?
Dr. Shrimali: MDI Gurgaon attracts many giant organizations to recruit from the pool of our talented students. Placement is never a concern for the MDI students. We currently have had 100% placements for our MBA batch. Companies in sectors like Sales & Marketing, Finance, HR, IT etc, visited the campus placing students across various roles. We have giants like, Flipkart, Hector Beverages, Heinz, Idea, Maruti Suzuki, Michelin, Novartis, PepsiCo, Pernord Ricard, Pidilite, Reliance Industries Limited, Snapdeal, Tata, visiting the campus.
Careers360: What is your take on the new IIMs proposed in the union budget in Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir?
Dr. Shrimali: The government coming up with the new IIMs and that too in states where a world class education must reach is a great initiative and we support it. MBA aspirants seek education from brand names, which yeilds successful results to them in the future, so coming up with the brands such as IIM is in their favour. Having said that, there are many things which are yet to be planned by the government while coming up with the proposal of establishing new IIMs. They must also have a plan of providing infrastructure to the students, a place of interactive learning, library, faculty and everything that make and maintain the standards of a world class education and the value of the brand name.
Careers360: What are your expectations from the students who aspire to pursue MBA from MDI? Please share a message for them.
Dr. Shrimali: I want the MDI Family to have an approach of capacity and competition building. I want the students to utilize the resources to the fullest, focus on more research based work and be process oriented. I want them to be good human beings with the right approach towards their studies and careers goals. If you have the spark we will support you.

Questions related to MDI Gurgaon
I am expecting 96-98 percentile in CAT 2020 based on my mocks. I have 89.8% in 10th and 71% in 12th and 68% in M.Tech Integrated Biotechnology (No work ex). Are these scores realistic to convert new IIMs and other colleges like MDI, SP JAIN, IIT etc?
Congratulations for your mock tests score.
The cut-off for top institutions depends upon your background, if you are an Engineer, you are required to score 99 percentile for top 10 colleges of India for MBA which includes IIM A, IIM B , IIM C etc. And if you are from non engineering background then 97-98 percentile also may works for you (general category).
As your 10th and 12th score is also good, you have great Chance of getting Interview calls from old IIMs and definitely from new IIMs too, also Colleges like IMT Ghaziabad, MDI gurgaon will definitely gives you an interview call if you apply for them with 98 percentile.
As currently you are scoring 96-98 percentile, try more hard and don't panic in exam, you may score more than 99 in actual exam.
I hope this information would be helpful for you.
All the best for your bright career ahead.

With 10th percentage 93.1, 12th percentage 90.4, btech cgpa 6.62, what chances do i have of getting a call into top iims, fms, mdi with a CAT score.of over 99 percentile?
Considering your Academic profile and CAT score for predicting selection in top IIMs is not sufficient. The selection depends on given factors:
- CAT scores
- Work Experience
- Gender Diversity
- WAT and Interview
- Academic Scores
- Overall profile
And being a General Engineers Male candidate, you must score above 99.6+ percentile for increasing chances of selection in top IIMs and FMS. With good performance in Interview and considerable work experience chances increases automatically.
