Careers360: Why you opted for a Management programme?
Anjali: I had a proclivity for finance ever since my XIth standard, which increased when I pursued my so Bachelors in Corporate Accounting. An MBA in Finance and International trade came as a natural extension to furthering my skill set. Post joining IIFT I have developed a keen interest in International trade apart from Finance, which aspired me to join MBA in Finance as a careers option.
Careers360: Which other exams you appeared in apart from IIFT and how was your performance?
Anjali: Apart from IIFT Entrance Exam, I took XAT 2014, CAT 2013, NMAT 2013 and SNAP 2013. In all these exams my performance was appreciable. But my aim was to crack IIFT and take admission in IIFT Delhi.
Careers360: Why did you choose to join this IIFT? Also name other B-schools which made final admission offers to you.
Anjali: I converted SCMHRD Pune, new IIM’s, and IIFT. I chose IIFT over others because the new IIMs relatively lack infrastructure, and for me who aspire to make a career in finance, IIFT is way above SCMHRD Pune. Also IIFT is a college with a rich legacy of about 50 years. A smaller batch size results in better placement prospects and greater student faculty interaction.
Careers360: What was your preparation strategy for IIFT 2013?
Anjali: Post CAT 2013, IIFT was my first management entrance exam. Preparation for CAT provided the necessary rigor to solve papers. Cracking IIFT is all about investing your time judiciously and keeping a check on accuracy simultaneously. To do that, I solved about 4 Mock IIFT Papers everyday. Also, the GK part was made stronger by developing a habit of reading newspaper regularly.
Careers360: Is coaching or mentoring important to crack IIFT or other Management entrance tests?
Anjali: IIFT entrance tests are different from other management entrance exams. If you practice mock tests daily and focus on the GK section, you do not require any coaching for IIFT. Mentoring by a mentor might help students to stay focused and motivated, but coaching is not required.
Careers360: How did you manage IIFT preparation schedule along with graduation studies?
Anjali: For a fresher, generally the IIFT entrance exam clashes with the University or end term Exams. The key lies in slotting the time for your preparations. It looked a little tiring and challenging to manage for the first few days, but later once you caught up a momentum, it all works in the favour. I remember the very next day of my IIFT Exam I had my University examination, which I appeared and secured good marks.

Careers360: Share your preparation strategy for the English Comprehensive, General Knowledge & Awareness and Logical Reasoning & Quantitative Analysis.
Anjali: For RC’s- The key to score in this section lies in your reading speed. So try improvising upon that. I read newspaper editorial daily. Reading newspaper editorial will serve two purposes- one they help you to solve analytical RC’s, as well as they improve your reading speed.
For GK- I read newspaper daily and also accessed some of the free online resources to brush up my GK.
For LR& QA- The key to score in QA is to be quick and manage time. I took up basic concepts of Quants first, followed by little tricky ones. Also, one month prior to the exam, I started working on calculations so as to ace the DI part. For LR- again reading and practicing is the only key.
Careers360: What Time Management formula you adopted while taking the actual IIFT paper?
Anjali: Since IIFT has sectional Cutoffs, I solved the easy sections fist which can let me score more, following the difficult section. It saves time as you are not stuck with a difficult question as they are time consuming.
Careers360: What were your strong and weak areas? How did you prepareand what special efforts did you put for improving your weak areas?
Anjali: My strong area was QA and DI. My relatively weaker area was RC and LR. RC was something which I took long to solve. To prepare for it, I did reading daily, be it a newspaper or magazine. During the last one month I started to solve 2 RCs a day. And as it’s said, Practice is the key; it helped me overcome my difficulty in solving RC.
Careers360: What is your advice for the Management aspirants who will take IIFT 2014?
Anjali: Since IIFT entrance is a differential marking paper, don’t get carried away by the mark and waste too much time on a single question. As of now, aspirants can start reading a few dailies on a regular basis, and try and improve upon the vocabulary and RC Skills. For the QA and DI, a regular practice of 1- 1.5 hours a day should suffice. Two weeks prior to the exam start taking mocks for IIFT, to get the flavor of the test.
Careers360: How important recreational activities are, and what activities you were indulged in?
Anjali: I love writing and I used to write daily for half an hour or so during the preparation time. I also played badminton, though not daily. When one sits for long hours of study, taking a recreational break becomes imperative. I used to take an hour out, which was divided between a small nap of may be 10-15 minutes or playing badminton.

what should be my Sectional cutoff in iift exam 2020
This is the sectional cutoff of IIFT exam 2020:
Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension 18-20
Quantitative Analysis 16-20
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning 18-20
General Awareness (GK) 8-10
This sectional cutoff is for Delhi IIFT. So for other IIFTs it will be slightly lower.
Is iift consider your past academics record
- Hey, acccording to my opinion IIFT does not consider your past academics record . iift consider your good percentile WAT,PI and GD scores .if you are clear sectional cutoff and over all cutoff then you are eligible for shortlisted candidates .i think IIFT DELHI AND KOLKATA ARE THE GOOD CAMPUS . I THINK YOU SHOULD SCORES GOOD PERCENTILE THEN ACADEMIC RECORD DOES NOT MATTER FOR YOU FIRST YOU SHOULD GIVE TOTAL FOCUS TOWARD ENTRANCE EXAM.....
