Careers360: Congratulations for your CMAT Result. Share your feelings on being a Topper.
Amitrajit: Thank You. It feels great to secure this rank and such a good percentile. Actually, this result came as a surprise to me; I didn’t expect it at all. Everyone in the family and friends are proud of me and sending their wishes.
Careers360: Tell us something about yourself, your current education, college percentage.
Amitrajit: I have been born and bought up in Kolkata and pursued my education here only. I am in the final year of my CSE from Jadavpur University. Completed my schooling from Birla High School with 88.6 % in 12th CBSE board and I am a trained classical singer as well.
Careers360: Is this your first CMAT attempt? How was the experience of the exam?
Amitrajit: Yes it was my first CMAT attempt and am lucky to rank 6 in the same. The exam experience was good; I made sure that I don’t have any exam pressure on me. I tried to plan my study along with recreational activities, which is an important part to keep oneself active in the studies. A good study plan will give you enough time to cover all the topics along with revision and mock tests. If you enjoy your studies you will surely enjoy the exam experience.
Careers360: So now the results are out, which institutes are you aiming for admission through CMAT scores?
Amitrajit: My score being 99.99%, I can get admission to the top colleges of CMAT. But my preference is JBIMS, SIMSREE, followed by IFIM. I aim to get admission in any of the top 5 CMAT accepting colleges/institutes.
Careers360: Which other exams are you appearing for? Also B-schools have started their application process for 2015-17 batch, which B-School is your focus?
Amitrajit: Besides CMAT I will be appearing in NMAT, IIFT, CAT and XAT. Getting admission to one of the top B-schools, especially IIM Bangalore and Calcutta is my focus. And for that I have to score great in CAT, so I have already started my CAT coaching.
Careers360: Which was the toughest & easiest section according to you in CMAT?
Amitrajit: The General Knowledge section of the exam was easiest for me. Though technically it was not easy, but luckily I knew the answers to most of the questions. It is best to solve the GK section first, as these questions do not require any strategy or technique to apply. You either know the answer or don’t. Doing these 25 questions at first gives you a relief of completing one section of the exam, which is like a morale booster.
The toughest was Logical Reasoning, actually more of time consuming. LR takes a lot of time to solve as it does not follow a pattern. This section has random questions which are based on different logic, so it consumes time to read, think and solve them. Language and QT were moderate for me.

Careers360: Share your CMAT exam taking strategy?
Amitrajit: The CMAT exam is divided into four sections of 100 marks each. There are 25 questions to be answered within the time limit of 3 hours. The four sections are: General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension and Quantitative Technique & Data Interpretation.
I started with the GK section first, which was easy for me to attempt and does not take much time to complete. This tactic helped me save time for QT &DI as they take time to solve. Later, I shifted to the Language section and in the last I solved the QT&DI section.
Careers360: How is the preparation and test taking strategy different for CMAT as compared to other exams such as CAT/XAT etc.?
Amitrajit: CMAT is easier than the CAT exam, though few of the topics vary from each other, but the pattern is easy. GK section of CAT and CMAT varies and you must prepare for both the exams in the required manner.
The best way to prepare for CMAT is school study. If you have studied well in your school; you would be able to tackle the GK section of the exam well. Besides that, one important strategy to be followed in any given entrance exam is indulgence in recreational activities. Be it watching movie, outdoor sports or just meditation, you have to have an indulgence in any one of the activities besides studying.
Careers360: Any tips/suggestions for CMAT February 2015 aspirants and those of next year?
Amitrajit: If you are focus to crack CMAT exam, it is very important to focus on GK. Read newspapers and try to keep a tap on the latest happenings around. Getting the basics right for QT&VI and LR is important as there's a good chance to score in these section.
LR can be time consuming, so manage your time accordingly, and attempt GK section first, as it can save a lot of time. The most important thing is not to take any kind of exam pressure; get a positive feel about it. Pressure will only hamper the performance, so if you want to excel, throw your pressure away.

I have scored 210marks with 82.79 percentile approx in CMAT 2020.Belonging to General-EWS Category,Is it ossible to secure a seat for MBA from MS university Baroda ?!
1st of all, the percentile system is different that percentage system. Percentile system depends on the aspirant who scored highest marks, and keeping his percentile as base every other aspirant receives his percentile. Hence cut off of every college differs every year. depending upon total number of aspirants, highest scorer, number of seats, difficulty level.
If we take previous year records scores the cutoff has been nearly 176-208 for MS University.
So a score in greater than this will help you to have more chance of college conversion. also you have General EWS category so that will further help you.
