After the MAH MBA CET exam, candidates must take part in the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for seat allotment. This is a common counselling process conducted for admission to MBA programmes offered by universities and colleges in Maharashtra. During CAP, candidates fill their college preferences, and seats are allotted based on their exam score, category, and availability of seats.
CAT does not have a single common counselling process for all colleges. The IIMs shortlist candidates and conduct further rounds such as the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) for MBA admission. For other MBA colleges that accept CAT scores, candidates need to apply separately and go through each institute’s own selection process.
The scorecard of CAT is accepted by top IIMs and other B schools. While, the MAH MBA CET result is used to provide admission to top MBA colleges in Maharashtra.

1. Competition is higher in the CAT than in the MAH MBA CET
The CAT exam has a much larger number of applicants compared to the MAH MBA CET. Every year, around 2 lakh to 3 lakh candidates appear for CAT, while about 1 lakh candidates take the MAH MBA CET exam. Because of this large number of applicants, the level of competition in CAT is much higher. Preparing for the CAT first can help candidates become mentally ready for competitive exams like CET.
2. Admission chances in top colleges differ
CAT scores are accepted by many prestigious institutes, such as the IIMs and SP Jain Institute of Management and Research. According to exam analysis, students may secure admission to top CAT colleges with relatively lower accuracy compared to CET. For example, admission to leading CET colleges like JBIMS Mumbai often requires an extremely high percentile, usually around the 99.8–99.9 percentile.
3. Higher salary packages through CAT colleges
Top MBA colleges accepting CAT scores generally offer higher salary packages. In many top CAT colleges, the average salary ranges between ₹10 lakh and ₹30 lakh per year. In comparison, colleges accepting MAH MBA CET scores usually offer average packages between ₹8 lakh and ₹17.5 lakh per year, though some institutes also provide competitive placements.
5. Number of correct answers required for a high percentile
In CAT, answering around 40 questions correctly can sometimes help a candidate reach around 97 percentile, depending on the exam difficulty. In the MAH MBA CET, candidates may need to answer around 150 questions correctly to reach a 99.9 percentile. For example, the cutoff for JBIMS Mumbai is usually around 99.87 percentile for Maharashtra candidates and nearly 99.99 percentile for All India candidates.
