An MBA, being a professional course, is believed to be the most beneficial post-graduation degree in India. Moreover, because of its versatile and inclusive nature, graduates from any discipline can opt for an MBA, provided they have matched the eligibility criteria. It is regarded that having an MBA would not only open the plethora of job openings in the corporate in diverse fields but at the same time the career would be financially viable too.
That is why the tendency to apply for MBA courses is increasing daily, despite its costly fee structure, even after taking bank loans. Clearing the CAT, or Common Admission Test, is regarded as one of the much-talked-about processes to get into the B-Schools for the MBA or PGDM courses.
CAT (Common Admission Test) is a computer-based national-level test that is conducted every year by IIMs. This is a qualifying exam to get shortlisted for the IIMs and other top B-Schools. All the top management schools, like IIMs and non-IIMs, have their cut-offs, and students who are selected have to undergo other rounds of tests, which include the Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI). However, the cut-offs for IIM and non-IIM B-Schools depend on each year and institution.
Though candidates can get into other B-Schools apart from IIMs without clearing the CAT, prominent IIMs only accept the CAT scores. Despite the several other processes to get into an MBA course without appearing for the CAT examination, clearing the CAT or Common Admission Test, is regarded as one of the much-talked-about processes to get into the B-Schools for the MBA or PGDM courses.
Getting into IIMs after clearing CAT not only enhances the chances to procure a good salary but also, at the same time, when one clears CAT, the acceptance in institutions like IIMs also widens the network opportunity for a candidate. While not clearing CAT does not hamper the candidate's chance to have an MBA degree, clearing CAT heightens the career prospects in the longer term.
Though one has a good CAT percentile, one might be confused about how to choose a good institution from the MBA courses. These are the following factors that need to be kept in mind while selecting an MBA or PGDM course or college:
The course and the institutions must be recognized by the AICTE or UCG.
The course or the program fee is another important factor that one takes into consideration when choosing among MBA programmers across the colleges. There are good MBA colleges with low fees of Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 3 lakhs, like GGSIPU, Ambedkar University Delhi, and DSE Delhi, among others.
There are different types of specifications in MBA that cater to the needs of the different sectors or for the students coming from diverse backgrounds in the bachelor degree. So it is advised that the candidate must check the details about the course and the programs that are offered, which will be beneficial for the candidate. If one wishes to do an MBA in Finance and the institute does not offer it, there is no use applying for admission
Apart from choosing courses based on specialization, the MBA college, which has a comparatively good placement record regarding salary and placement percentages, must be given priority compared to others while applying for the MBA courses.
The institute with highly qualified and research-oriented faculty should be given priority by the candidates while filling up the forms for respective colleges.
An institute that has a good campus infrastructure and is equipped with facilities like the latest study material, a library, and wi-fi should be given priority compared to other institutions.

After CAT, IIMs would be the best. Apart from that there are several other institutions like MDI Gurgaon, SIBM Pune, XLRI- Xavier School of Management , GIM Goa, Sand PJIMR Mumbai that would be best for the candidates depending on their percentile.
All prominent IIMs like IIM-Ahmedabad, IIM-Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode, and IIM Calcutta accept CAT scores.
Though IIMs primarily have higher CAT percentile Cut-offs, several IIMs also accept candidates with lower cut-offs. IIM Shillong and IIM Sirmur have the lowest CAT cutoff which remains between 90-74 depending on the categories.
While many prominent B-Schools including IIMs accept CAT scores there is a particular number regarding How many colleges are there in the CAT.
Yes, the Indian Institutes of Technologies (IIT) accepts CAT scores for admission to MBA programs.
Yes, according to the official brochures, there has been 100% placement in some of the institutions after an MBA.
The highest package in IIM varies from IIM to IIM and depends on the courses. However, the couple of years witnessed the highest package going more than 100LPA in some of the IIMS.
Like any other competitive examination, CAT is not a very easy exam to crack. However, with dedication and proper guidance and training as well as preparation, one can crack it.

Hello dear,
The CAT exam requires a significant amount of time for preparation, including brushing up on basic concepts and practicing advanced problem-solving. Starting too early can feel overwhelming and may not be sustainable with other academic commitments.
