What Exactly Changed in SNAP 2026?

SNAP has traditionally been a three-section test: General English, Quantitative Ability with Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency, and Analytical & Logical Reasoning. For SNAP 2026, a fourth section has been added, and the paper now looks like this:

• The total number of questions hasn't increased. SNAP still has 60 questions in 60 minutes. The exam has simply been restructured to make room for the new section.

• General English has been trimmed from 15 to 10 questions, and Reasoning has dropped from 25 to 20 questions to accommodate EMV.

• Quantitative, DI and DS retains its usual 20-question share- this section is untouched.

• The overall test duration remains 60 minutes, and the exam continues to be a computer-based test (CBT) with the standard +1 for a correct answer and 0.25 for a wrong one.

• Candidates can still attempt SNAP up to three times, with the best of the three scores counted for shortlisting.

If you have previous experience preparing for XAT Decision Making, or plan to appear for both SNAP and XAT, this is to your advantage.

SNAP 2026 EMV: Possible Question Types

Based on how this kind of content is typically tested - and how XAT's Decision Making section has evolved over the years - expect a mix of:

• Word and definition matching - connecting an ethical term to its correct meaning

• Theory identification - reading a short scenario and identifying which ethical framework (utilitarian, deontological, etc.) best explains the reasoning or decision described

• Scenario–based judgment - a short business situation followed by "what would be the most appropriate course of action"

• Statement and conclusion - evaluating whether a given conclusion logically and ethically follows from a stated situation

Notice that this isn't a subjective, opinion-based section - it's still an objective, MCQ-based test. Every question will have a "best" answer grounded in a specific ethical principle or a widely accepted standard of business conduct, not your personal opinion.

How SNAP EMV Differs from XAT Decision Making

A candidate preparing for the XAT exam can have a quick comparison between the two exams to gauge their efforts.

This is true, and if you are taking both the tests, consider Decision Making practice as an excellent way to get warmed up for EMV; the only thing is that the SNAP may have more questions based on ethics than the XAT.

Preparation Strategy for the Ethics, Morality and Values

Since this section is new, there's no bank of previous-year SNAP questions to rely on. That actually works in your favor if you start early and build a systematic base, because most aspirants will underprepare for it or ignore it entirely in favor of familiar Quant and Reasoning practice.

Build a Working Vocabulary of Ethical Terms

Spend a few focused sessions simply learning the vocabulary - utilitarianism, deontology, virtue ethics, conflict of interest, whistleblowing, stakeholder theory, DEI, CSR. You don't need philosophy-level depth; you need enough clarity to recognize which principle a scenario is pointing to.

Practice with XAT Decision Making Sets

Since SNAP EMV and XAT Decision Making share significant conceptual overlap, previous years' XAT Decision Making questions are currently the closest thing to real practice material available. Work through them section by section and pay attention to why the "correct" answer is correct - that reasoning pattern is exactly what SNAP is likely to test.

Read Business Ethics Case Discussions

Follow real (anonymized or reported) business ethics dilemmas - data privacy controversies, whistleblower cases, CSR debates, insider trading news. This builds intuition for how ethical principles apply in messy, real-world business situations, which is more useful here than pure memorization.

Learn to Separate Personal Opinion from the "Correct" Framework

The biggest trap in this section is answering with your gut instinct instead of identifying the framework the question is testing. Train yourself to ask: "Is this asking what's most ethical by outcome (utilitarian), by rule (deontological), or by character (virtue-based)?" That single habit will resolve most scenario-based questions faster than overthinking the situation itself.

Don't Let It Eat Into Your Core Sections

Ten marks matter, but Quant, Reasoning, and English still make up 50 of SNAP's 60 questions. Budget your prep time proportionally - a strong, steady EMV routine (20-30 minutes, a few times a week) alongside your existing Quant and Reasoning schedule is more sensible than an intense last-minute cram.

• From a 3-section to 4-section format, the SNAP 2026 test has undergone changes, and now the Ethics, Morality and Values section carries 10 marks.

• The total number of questions as well as the duration of the test remains the same - English and Reasoning sections have simply been squeezed.
