Conceptual clarity influence candidate’s selection at PI rounds, says Prof. M.H. Bala Subrahmanya, Chairman, DMS, IISc Bangalore

Careers360: Is your B-school application open? What is the percentile bracket for national level tests and your total intake?
M.H. Bala: Our online application process started from February first week. The percentile range is,
The total intake for Master of Management is 15, and annual Fee is Rs.1.50 lakhs.
Careers360: What is your selection criterion for Master of Management programme for the academic session 2016-18?
M.H. Bala: The selection criteria vary a bit each year. Our mode of selection consists of two rounds- Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Students are first selected on the basis of their national level test scores and called for further rounds of selection. At the last stage, their overall performance is considered.
Careers360: Many of the top B-schools have replaced GD with WAT. What is your take on this?
M.H. Bala: We are continuing with GD for this year’s academic process. In addition, we check the written communication competence of candidates. I think GD is still relevant as we get to know about students’ communications skills and how they manage to put their points in a pressurized situation.
Careers360: What are the factors that influence a candidate's selection at the Personal Interview (PI) stage?
M.H. Bala: A candidate's overall motivation, business awareness, conceptual clarity, quantitative ability, and oral communication largely determine his/her selection. Each round plays a vital role in the selection process, and every student is scrutinized thoroughly.
Careers360: What makes your campus life or residential programme interesting?
M.H. Bala: Ours is a fully residential programme and we provide dedicated individual cabins with a PC. There is scope for involving in extra-curricular activities as the Institute has excellent sports infrastructure, swimming pool, auditoriums, etc.
