AP ICET 2026 Vocabulary List with Practice Questions - The Andhra Pradesh Integrated Common Entrance Test, commonly known as AP ICET, is one of the most competitive state-level exams, which has three major sections of the exam. The Communication Ability section is one of the important sections as it holds quite a significant role in the business and technology domain. This comprehensive guide has been designed to help AP ICET 2026 aspirants build a strong vocabulary base systematically. This article will guide the aspirants about important vocabulary tips along with a quick revision.
The Communication Ability section in AP ICET carries 70 marks out of the total 200 marks in the exam. This section is divided into five parts, and vocabulary-related questions appear directly in multiple parts. Strong vocabulary also indirectly supports performance in reading comprehension, where understanding difficult words in a passage is crucial for answering inference and detail questions correctly. Indirectly and directly, all questions of any section are based on vocabulary knowledge only.
The Communication Ability section in AP ICET 2026 is expected to contain approximately 70 questions, among which the vocabulary segment that we can expect is:
Synonyms and Antonyms: 10 to 15 questions
Idioms and Phrases: 5 to 8 questions
One-Word Substitutions: 4 to 6 questions
Word Usage in Context (Fill in the blanks): 8 to 10 questions
Collocations and Phrasal Verbs: 3 to 5 questions

AP ICET vocabulary questions are usually presented in four main formats:
Synonym-based MCQs: The question gives a word and asks candidates to choose the word closest in meaning from four options.
Antonym-based MCQs: The question gives a word and asks candidates to select the word most opposite in meaning.
Idiom/Phrase identification: A sentence or phrase is given, and the candidate must identify its correct meaning or select the appropriate idiom for a given situation.
Sentence completion: A sentence with one or two blanks is given, and the candidate must choose the vocabulary word that fits the blank correctly in context.
One-word substitution: A phrase or definition is given and the candidate must select the single word that best represents that meaning.
The most important areas are both Synonyms and antonyms
Different levels of difficulty we can expect
Commonly tested synonym-antonym pairs include words from domains such as business communication, interpersonal relations, management vocabulary, academic writing, and general formal English.
Generally, candidates to identify the meaning of a given idiom or to choose the correct idiom that fits a described situation.
A good approach is to learn idioms in context, understanding both the literal and figurative meaning of each expression.
1. These questions are often tricky because multiple words may seem close in meaning, and only one fits precisely.
2. Regular practice with one-word substitution lists is essential for mastering this question type.
Most important and relevant questions of all, so one needs to be prepared.
The whole verbal section runs on this parameter only
Collocations and Phrasal Verbs
AP ICET may test candidates on choosing the correct collocating word in a sentence.
Phrasal verbs are verbs combined with a preposition or adverb to create a new meaning. Examples include 'look into' (investigate), 'bring up' (raise a topic), 'carry out' (execute), and 'call off' (cancel).

Try to follow it religiously daily, as the following techniques are most effective:
Learning 10 to 15 new words every day and revising the previous day's words before adding new ones
For each new word, note the meaning, part of speech, an example sentence, and at least one synonym and one antonym
Using the word in a sentence of your own before moving on to the next word
Grouping words by theme or root to remember them more efficiently. For example, words from the Latin root 'bene' (good) include benevolent, benefactor, and benign
Reading the editorial sections of English newspapers such as The Hindu or The Economic Times daily, and noting unfamiliar words
Listening to formal English programmes such as BBC World Service or watching TED Talks to hear vocabulary used in context
One of the best experimented strategies to improve:
Writing the word on the front side of the flashcard and the meaning, part of speech, synonym, antonym, and an example sentence on the reverse side
Using a spaced repetition system where you review difficult words more frequently and easy ones less often
Creating themed word stacks, such as one for business vocabulary, one for personality words, and one for academic vocabulary
Using digital flashcard apps if physical cards are not convenient, but the physical act of writing helps retention
Reviewing flashcards for at least 20 minutes each day, including during commuting time
Solve at least one full vocabulary mock test every week from the 30 days before the exam
After each mock test, go through every wrong answer and understand why it was wrong
Time yourself during practice to develop the speed needed for the actual exam
Focus on the question types where you score lowest and revise those word categories

After reading an article, summarise it in your own words using as many of the new vocabulary words as possible
Make a conscious effort to use newly learned words in your spoken and written conversations
When writing emails or messages, challenge yourself to use one or two formal vocabulary words per paragraph
Join a vocabulary learning group or study partner arrangement where you quiz each other daily
Watch formal English content such as documentaries, TED Talks, and business interviews, and note vocabulary usage
Practice paraphrasing sentences using synonyms from your word list to internalise word meanings
Vocabulary is the most important pillar of communication, so it should be avoided at any cost. It takes time, so consistency matters a lot.
