Careers360: What was your main objective behind pursuing MBA? What are your aspirations?
Sourabh Sharma: I had gained the technical knowledge during my stay in IGATE. I wanted to learn as well as explore the management side of the business which would help me in my overall development. My aspiration is to become the CFO of a company where I would be able to apply all my learning’s.
Careers360: Apart from CAT 2013, which other MBA entrance exams you took and how was your performance?
Sourabh Sharma: Apart from CAT 2013, I also appeared for XAT, NMAT and IIFT. But, my goal was to get a good percentile in CAT. My preparation was focussed on CAT only.
Careers360: Why did you choose to join this B-School? Were there other B-Schools that made final admission offers to you?
Sourabh Sharma: TAPMI is one of the best B schools in India and it was actually one of my targets while I was preparing for CAT exams. I also got offers from IMT-Ghaziabad and SIMSREE.
Careers360: What was your preparation strategy for CAT 2013?
Sourabh Sharma: The most important thing for me was to improve on the sections which I’m not good at. For me it was Verbal section. After one has studied all the topics from Quant, Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability, focus should be on taking as many mock papers as possible. Mock tests reflects much about your preparation and shows how much more effort you need to put into your preparation to achieve your target percentile.
Careers360: How important is Coaching or Mentoring to crack CAT or other MBA entrance tests?
Sourabh Sharma: For those who are appearing for CAT for the first time, I would suggest they should join coaching classes. Regular classes keep you focussed on preparation and weekly tests help you get the feel of actual exam papers. Competing with the classmates during the lectures also helps. And for those who are appearing for the exams for second time, the test series materials are more than enough.
Careers360: How did you manage CAT preparation schedule along with your working hours?
Sourabh Sharma: I have appeared in the CAT exam before but could not secure a good percentile as I did not have any coaching for the exam preparations. But I had an idea on how to start and proceed with my preparations. I used to study 2 hrs daily for last 2 months, managing well with my work and other activities. If you are focused and determined, managing time for studies along with other activities is a no big deal.
Careers360: How did you divide your timings between preparation and recreational activities? What were the activities that you did besides preparing for the exam?
Sourabh Sharma: As I said, 2 hrs of practice is more than enough, you get a lot of time to do whatever you want, and recreational activities are important. Beside studies it is important to give your brain a bit of rest and indulge into sports, reading and whatever you like.
Careers360: What kind of movies do you enjoy watching?
Sourabh Sharma: I like Action movies and Pulp fiction is my favourite. Throughout my exam schedule I made sure that I watch and enjoy what I like.
Careers360: Please share your preparation strategy for the Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning separately?
Sourabh Sharma:My first step was to go through every topic as per the CAT syllabus for all the four sections. Once this was done I started with the mock exams. Later, I analyzed the paper and checked where I was losing my marks. This technique helped me a lot. If you follow this, you get to know the topics and areas which are your weakness. I followed the same strategy for all the sections, revise, mock tests and finally analyze.
Careers360: Did you follow any Time Management formula while taking the actual CAT paper?
Sourabh Sharma: It is important to not to waste time in a single problem. There might be a case in which you are not able to crack a problem of your favourite topic but one must leave it and move forward to other questions as we might be missing an easier question which is yet to come.
Careers360: What were your strong and weak areas? How did you prepare for them?
Sourabh Sharma: Quant, LR and DI were my strong areas. To improve my verbal ability section, I gave lots of sectional tests. I also understood that every reading section has one or two easy questions which one can be answered just by reading the passage once. This save a lot of time and supports you in getting few extra minutes for answering the tough questions.
Careers360: What is your advice for the MBA aspirants who will take CAT 2014?
Sourabh Sharma: Be cool and maintain calm if you are not scoring well in mock exams. Getting a high percentile is not that tough. Regular practice is the key.

As you have secured 90.5 percentile score in JEE mains from general category then your all India rank must be around 105000. Now if you want to take admission in BIT Sindri on the basis of your general category all India rank then yes, you can get admission in BIT Sindri as per seeing the last year cutoff Trends.
Here is the last year (2019) cutoff Trends for general category students on the basis of their all India rank for BIT Sindri for all branches :-
Mechanical engineering - 85548
Electrical engineering - 86089
Production engineering - 128980
Metallurgy - 96231
Chemical engineering - 121628
Civil engineering - 99706
Electronics and communication engineering - 69402
Information technology - 66486

So as you can see this year there is a chance that you can easily get chemical engineering, production engineering and mining engineering. But the chances are very hard for you to get civil engineering and metallurgy branch in BIT Sindri.
I got 346 marks.My air is 252953.My cat Rank is 27,147.Can i get seat?
You have provided all the details but have missed out mentioning the category itself,, considering you as General, from your profile it seems you belong to Telangana, chances for GMC is quite difficult in your case and further taking into consideration the fact that there are greater chances of cut-offs increasing this year make it more tough, you should try other options of private colleges or deemed universities regarding this, cutoffs vary every year based on multiple factors such as seat matrix, marks obtained in exam, toughness level of paper, total number of candidates participating in the exam etc. check out previous year cut-offs at https://medicine.careers360.com/articles/neet-cutoff-telangana , to know more about admission possibilities in various colleges you can use our NEET College Predictor; https://medicine.careers360.com/neet-college-predictor?icn=QnA&ici=qna_answer

My branch is Electrical Engineering and in my college i have very less chance of placements . So what jobs should i go for so that it could be counted as work experience if I want to go for CAT exam ?
For MBA , work experience is not compulsory. You can get into MBA colleges without a work experience. It's like good food placed in a good plate. If you have a work experience you will get a good job or with more package . Otherwise it will depend on your academics.
