The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Rohtak has released the PGP admission results for the 2024-26 batch, sparking a significant controversy over gender diversity. In the general category, 453 admission offers were extended, with 232 candidates accepting their offers from the first merit list. Notably, of these 453 students, only 19 are male, while a staggering 434 are female. This means that a mere 4% of the admitted students are male, compared to 96% female, raising concerns about gender imbalance. The topic has ignited extensive discussions on social media platforms like X and LinkedIn, with many individuals sharing their views on the implications of this gender disparity at IIM Rohtak.
Students are arguing that IIM Rohtak selection criteria involve several factors, like CAT scores, past academic performance, and gender diversity points, unfairly favouring female candidates. This, they claim, compromises the principle of merit-based admissions.
Many took to social media to comment that gender diversity in IIM Rohtak admissions "undermines fair competition." At IIM Rohtak gender diversity issues, while some share their concern about this, some share their appreciation.
Social Media Backlash over IIM Rohtak Gender Diversity Issues
A man criticises over gender bias, suggesting merit is obscured by the push for gender diversity. He argues that this is not just a diversity issue but a fairness issue where qualified male candidates are unfairly overlooked. He accuses IIM Rohtak of indulging in "theatre of diversity," suggesting that the focus on gender diversity undermines academic integrity and fairness.
LinkedIn user Parineeti Sharma wrote, IIM Rohtak's latest admission data shows a marked gender disparity, where 434 women and only 19 men were admitted under the general category. This imbalance raises concerns about potential gender bias in the selection process, disproportionately favouring female candidates and undermining fair competition.
Additionally, she calls for immediate action to ensure that diversity initiatives do not compromise qualifications or lead to gender bias. She emphasises the need for IIM Rohtak to address this issue to maintain the integrity of their admission process and promote genuine inclusion. This stance highlights an important balance between promoting diversity and ensuring fair admissions practices.

A person shared an example of how the gender ratio of 96:4 is unjustifiable. The example says the weightage of CAT score is 60% and 10% is given for diversity
A man with an 8/8/8 profile scores 75 marks. He would have gotten a 99 percentile. His composite score is 75/198*60=22.7
A woman with an 8/8/8 profile scores 60 marks. She will get 96.5 percentile. Her composite score is 60/198*60=19.69
Now, add 10 points for gender, 19.69 + 10 = 29.69 marks.
So she questioned, What does it take for a man to be equal?. Because of diversity, 96.5 percent female equals 99.8 percent male.
Despite the criticism, many support IIM Rohtak's efforts to promote gender diversity. They argue that such policies enhance the learning environment by bringing together students from diverse backgrounds, leading to a richer exchange of views and ideas. Supporters also say that diversity initiatives help fix historical and systemic biases in education.
