XAT 2018 Analysis and Expected cutoff – Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2018 has been held on January 7, 2018. For the first time, it was held in computer based mode. Although the mode of XAT is changed, the exam pattern remained same as last year, except few changes in terms of marking scheme and number of questions. The difficulty level of XAT 2018 was moderate to tough. Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation section was the toughest, followed by Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning. Decision Making was the easiest. There some major technical glitch reported from test centres in Gurgaon, Pune and Kolkata. The exam has been cancelled. Changes introduced in XAT 2018

  • Mode of test changed from paper pencil based to computer based

  • Essay writing section will be held on paper and pen despite online mode of test

  • Total number of multiple choice questions in Paper 1 was 74. Last year, the total number of questions was 72.

  • The number of unattempted questions which would not involve negative marking scheme has reduced to eight from 12.

The 3 hour 35 minutes test was scheduled from 10 AM to 1.35 PM. There was a break of five minutes between Part 1 and Part 2 of XAT 2018. Now let us take a detailed look at the section wise exam analysis of XAT 2018.

 

XAT 2018 Analysis – Part 1 

 

The part one of XAT 2018 consists of Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation.

 

XAT 2018 Analysis – Verbal and Logical Ability

 

This section carried 26 questions of easy to moderate level. There was equal distribution of questions among Verbal Ability and Logical Ability areas. There were 17 Reading Comprehension questions. The RC questions were from passages as well as poems. The other questions were on English Usage which included Vocabulary, Grammar, appropriate word usage and Verbal Reasoning.

The number of questions in this section was 21. The overall difficulty level of this section was easy. The questions are asked in caselet form. There were seven caselets.

The second part of XAT 2018 consists of General Knowledge and Essay Writing sections.

This section consists of 25 questions, of which 15 are from static GK and 10 were from current affairs. The topics from static GK were History, Currency, Invention, Geography, National Capital, Culture, Books & author, Personalities, Important Dates, Film, Science and Business. Current Affairs questions were on Economics, Film & Television and Ecosystem & Diversity.

XAT Analysis - Essay Writing

 

The essay writing question was also conducted online, where candidates had to type the essay on notepad. The topic of the essay was 'Ethical practices and sustainability - Do they coexist?'. The topic was found easy for most of the candidates. 

 

XAT Expected Cutoff 2018

 

XAT 2018 cutoff refers to the minimum percentile candidates must secure in order to get shortlisted by XLRI Jamshedpur and other XAT participating institutes. The cutoff of XAT 2018 will depend on various factors such as difficulty level of the exam, number of test takers, number of seats among others.

 

Career Launcher predicts XAT 2018 cutoff as, "The overall expected cutoff for BM can be around 35-36 and 31-32 for HRM." The following tables bring the XAT cutoff of the previous year for XLRI Jamshedpur.

XAT 2018 Answer Key and Result

 

The official XAT 2018 answer key will be released by XLRI Jamshedpur within 10 days of the exam. The answer keys will be available only in online mode. Since the exam is conducted in computer based mode, experts from coaching institutes will not release the XAT answer key. The XAT 2018 result will be declared on January 31, 2018.
