AP ICET Analytical Ability Sample Questions: Data Sufficiency

The data sufficiency section of the AP ICET 2025 analytical ability section consists of 20 questions. They will be the first 20 questions appearing in the question paper. In this section, the candidates will be given two statements, and by going through it, they must identify if both the statements, either the first or the second statement alone, can bring a conclusion. In case both the statements together cannot answer the question, they must choose the last option, neither. Given below are a few AP ICET data sufficiency sample questions for the candidate’s practice.

In the questions below, a question is followed by data in the form of two statements labelled as I and II. You have to decide whether the data given in the statement is sufficient to answer the questions. Using the data, make an appropriate choice from (1) to (4) as per the following guidelines:

    a) Mark choice (1) if the statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question.
    b) Mark choice (2) if the statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.
    c) Mark choice (3) if the statements I and II together are sufficient to answer the question but neither statement alone is sufficient.
    d) Mark choice (4) if the statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question and additional data is required.

    Question:
What is the cost of each pen?

    Statements:
    I. Cost of 3 pens and 4 pencils is Rs. 10
II. Cost of 12 pencils and 9 pens is Rs. 30

    Options:

    1. 1

    Correct Option: 4

    Explanation:
Both statements provide some information about the costs of pens and pencils, but none of them alone is sufficient to calculate the cost of a single pen. We would need to solve a system of equations using the data from both statements to determine the cost of each pen. Therefore, the correct answer is "4," which indicates that additional data is required.

    Question:
For the positive integer n, is n - 10 odd?

    Statements:
    I. n - 16 is a positive integer
    II. n + 12 is even

    Options:

    1. 1

    2. 2

    Correct Option: 2

    Explanation:
From Statement II, we know that n + 12 is even. This implies that n must be even (because adding an even number to an even number gives an even number). Since n is even, n - 10 will be even, not odd. Hence, Statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.

    Question:
Four friends, A, B, C, and D got the top four ranks in a test but did not get the first. B did not get the second, C did not get the third, and D did not get the fourth. Who secured which rank?

    Statements:
    I. Neither A nor D were among the first 2 ranks
II. Neither B nor C was third or fourth

    Options:

    1. 1

    2. 2

    3. 3

    4. 4

    UPES MBA Admissions 2026

Last Date to Apply: 26th March | Ranked #36 amongst institutions in Management by NIRF | 100% Placement

    Correct Option: 3

    Explanation:
Using both statements, we can deduce the ranking:

    • From Statement I: A and D are excluded from the top two ranks.

    • From Statement II: B and C cannot be 3rd or 4th.

    Therefore, A must be 1st, B must be 2nd, C must be 3rd, and D must be 4th.

Thus, Statement I and II together are sufficient to answer the question, but neither statement alone is enough.

    Question:
    What is the value of x in the equation 2x + 5 = 11?

    Statements:
    I. x = 3
II. x is a prime number

    Options:

    1. 1

    2. 2

    3. 3

    4. 4

    Correct Option: 1

    Explanation:
Statement I directly gives the value of x as 3. Hence, Statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question. Therefore, the correct answer is "1."

    Question:
What is the cost of the book?

    Statements:
    I. A man earns a profit of 25% on selling a book
II. The selling price of the book is Rs. 5000

    Options:

    1. 1

    2. 2

    3. 3

    4. 4

    Correct Option: 3

    Explanation:
From Statement II, the selling price is given as Rs. 5000. From Statement I, a 25% profit is made on selling the book. To find the cost price, we can use the formula:

Cost Price = Selling Price / (1 + Profit Percentage)
    Cost Price = 5000 / (1 + 0.25)
    Cost Price = 5000 / 1.25 = Rs. 4000

Thus, both statements together are sufficient to answer the question. Hence, the correct answer is "3."

    Question:
How many students scored more than the average marks of the class in a test?

    Statements:
    I. The average marks of the class was 70
II. 10 students scored above the arithmetic mean of the class

    Options:

    1. 1

    2. 2

    3. 3

    4. 4

    Correct Option: 2

    Explanation:
Statement I gives us the average marks (70), but without knowing the total number of students, we cannot directly determine how many scored above the average. Statement II informs us that 10 students scored above the arithmetic mean. Hence, Statement II is sufficient to answer the question. Therefore, the correct answer is "2."

    Question:
What is the total distance travelled by a train?

    Statements:
    I. The train travelled at an average speed of 80 km/h for 4 hours.
II. The train travelled at an average speed of 100 km/h for 2 hours.

    Options:

    1. 1

    2. 2

    3. 3

    4. 4

    Correct Option: 4

    Explanation:
To calculate the total distance, we can use the formula:
    Distance = Speed × Time

    • From Statement I: Distance = 80 km/h × 4 hours = 320 km

    • From Statement II: Distance = 100 km/h × 2 hours = 200 km

Adding the distances from both statements, the total distance is 320 km + 200 km = 520 km. Therefore, both statements together are sufficient to answer the question. Hence, the correct answer is "4."

    Question:
How many persons attended the meeting?

    Statements:
    I. Each registered person can take two persons with him/her.
II. There were totally 180 registrations for the meeting.

    Options:

    1. 1

    2. 2

    3. 3

    4. 4

    Correct Option:
    4. 4

    Explanation:
From Statement II, there were 180 registrations for the meeting. From Statement I, each registered person can bring 2 additional persons. Therefore, the total number of people who attended the meeting is:
    Total attendees = 180 (registrants) × 3 (including each person with 2 others) = 540.

Hence, both statements together are sufficient to answer the question. Therefore, the correct answer is "4."

AP ICET 2025 Analytical Ability: Data Sufficiency Preparation Tips

The key to solving the data sufficiency questions in the AP ICET 2025 examination is by clearly understanding the question and statements. The candidates might carefully analyse the statements as well as the questions, or they might get confused easily while attending the questions. Some of the effective AP ICET preparation strategies for the data sufficiency problems are:

    • The candidate should avoid unnecessary calculations. The goal of the candidate is to find if the statements are sufficient to solve the problem; they need not find the answer to the question. Trying to do so may result in confusion and wrong responses.

    • Questions from both logical reasoning as well as quantitative ability are asked in the data sufficiency section of the analytical ability. Hence, the candidates should solve multiple AP ICET sample questions from these topics as well.

    • The candidates should also read both the statements carefully. Just going through one statement and immediately jumping to a conclusion can be fatal.

    • The candidates should avoid making assumptions. They must stick strictly to the information provided in the statements.

    • To have more idea of the type of questions asked under the analytical ability section and the difficulty level of the questions, the candidates should refer to the previous year's question papers of the AP ICET examination.

AP ICET Analytical Ability Sample Questions: Problem-Solving

The problem-solving sub-section of the analytical ability section is essentially the logical reasoning section of the AP ICET 2025 examination. This section includes topics such as finding the missing numbers, coding decoding, completing the series, clocks, analogy, seating arrangements, calendars, puzzles and a few simple mathematical problems. The candidates can also expect around 10 questions from the data interpretation topic as well. 55 out of 75 questions of the analytical ability section of the AP ICET examination is asked from this section alone, making it necessary for the candidates to practice a lot of AP ICET analytical ability sample questions. The candidates can refer to the various AP ICET analytical ability sample questions given below.

    Question:
In which of the following years was the total number of participants (athletes) from Country C the second highest?

    Options:

    1. 2019

    2. 2018

    3. 2017

    4. 2015

    Correct Option:
    2. 2018

    Explanation:
To find the second highest total number of participants for Country C, we need to calculate the total number of participants for each year:

    • 2014: 5.8 (M) + 6.3 (F) = 12.1

    • 2015: 8.4 (M) + 6.2 (F) = 14.6

    • 2016: 8.7 (M) + 7.4 (F) = 16.1

    • 2017: 9.2 (M) + 7.3 (F) = 16.5

    • 2018: 9.5 (M) + 5.9 (F) = 15.4

    • 2019: 6.4 (M) + 7.4 (F) = 13.8

From the above totals, the second highest total is 15.4 in 2018.

Hence, the correct answer is 2018.

    Question:
The number of female athletes who participated from Country E in the year 2018 was approximately what percentage of the total number of athletes who participated from Country B in the year 2017?

    Options:

    1. 40%

    2. 46%

    3. 50%

    4. 56%

    Correct Option:
    2. 46%

    Explanation:
    From the table:

    • Female athletes from Country E in 2018: 5.8

    • Total athletes from Country B in 2017 (sum of male and female athletes):

    Male (B): 5.9

    Female (B): 5.8
    Total = 5.9 + 5.8 = 11.7

    Now, calculate the percentage:

    Percentage = (5.8 / 11.7) × 100 ≈ 46%

Hence, the correct answer is 46%.

    Question:
A bus takes 3 hours and 30 minutes to cover a distance of 280 km. To make this journey in 4 hours, by how much should the speed of the bus be decreased?

    Options:

    1. 12 kmph

    2. 8 kmph

    3. 10 kmph

    4. 15 kmph

    Correct Option:
    3. 10 kmph

    Explanation:
First, calculate the speed of the bus when it takes 3 hours and 30 minutes to cover 280 km.

    • Time = 3 hours 30 minutes = 3.5 hours

    • Speed = Distance / Time = 280 km / 3.5 hours = 80 km/h

Now, to make the journey in 4 hours:

    • Required speed = Distance / Time = 280 km / 4 hours = 70 km/h

    The decrease in speed = 80 km/h - 70 km/h = 10 km/h

Hence, the speed of the bus should be decreased by 10 km/h. Therefore, the correct answer is 10 km/h.

    Question:
What is the angle between the minute hand and hour hand at 5:55?

    Options:

    1. 155°

    2. 152.5°

    3. 180.5°

    4. 185.5°

    Correct Option:
    2. 152.5°

    Explanation:
To calculate the angle between the minute hand and hour hand, use the formula:

    Angle = |(30 × H) - (5.5 × M)|

    Where:

    • H = Hour

    • M = Minute

    At 5:55:

    • H = 5

    • M = 55

    Using the formula:

    Angle = |(30 × 5) - (5.5 × 55)|
    Angle = |150 - 302.5|
    Angle = | -152.5 | = 152.5°

The candidates should always prioritise learning the analytical ability section of the AP ICET exam’s problem-solving section due to its high weightage. While analysing the previous year's question papers in the analytical ability section, it can be understood that a lot of questions have easy to moderate difficulty. The questions asked from the topics such as series completion, coding and decoding, analogy and odd one out were easy and straightforward. Hence, along with practicing for the exam using the AP ICET analytical ability model questions, the candidates should also follow the given below preparation tips.

    • Understanding the basics is the preliminary step for mastering any concepts of the examination. The candidates should be thorough with series completion, coding-decoding, analogy, and odd one out, as these often appear with easy to moderate difficulty.

    • The candidates should also solve a variety of questions daily to build speed and accuracy. Use AP ICET model questions and AP ICET sample papers for enhanced AP ICET 2025 practice.

    • For series and coding questions, the candidates should focus on identifying patterns or logic behind the sequences early. This will help them solve the problems early and enhance their AP ICET 2025 scores.

    • The candidates should focus on solving a lot of questions related to the logical reasoning section. They should note down the important topics and the questions that they have answered incorrectly. They must review the questions and understand the logic to avoid similar errors on the AP ICET exam day.

    • Taking timed quizzes and AP ICET mock tests is also essential for the candidates to prepare better for the examination and enhance their AP ICET 2025 performance.

    • The candidates are also advised to learn simple tricks for solving common question types to save time during the exam.
