The shortlisted candidates have to appear for Group Discussion/Written Ability Test and Personal Interview rounds. The 6 new IIMs, IIM Ranchi, Raipur, Rohtak, Trichy, Udaipur and Kashipur conduct a Common Admission Process (CAP). Last year, IIM Trichy conducted the CAP. The total number of seats offered by IIMs s 3,335. However, the total number of seats including the 6 new IIMs which are going to be functional from the 2015-17 batch and their admission criteria are yet to be declared.

The non-IIM B-schools accepting CAT scores also conduct GD, PI and or WAT rounds for the admission process.

The final selection result of IIMs and participating B-schools will be declared by April-May, 2015.

Last year, the test got shrouded in controversy after the declaration of the CAT 2013 result. Question arose over the scoring and normalization process when it was found out that 95,000 candidates obtained 0 or negative scores, as a result of which as candidates who attempted no questions were placed at around 55 percentile bracket. Owing to this, candidates dissatisfied with their scores  filed Writ Petition which led the Indore High Court to send notice to all 13 IIMs, Ministry of HRD and CAT testing agency Prometric India Pvt. Ltd.

CAT is a computer based exam. It is a multiple choice objective type test with 100 questions from 2 sections, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. Each question carries 3 marks and for each wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted. For no attempt, 0 marks will be awarded or deducted. Each section will have 50 questions. Unlike last year the sections would not be time bound and they can be switched.

CAT 2014 has been conducted by IIM Indore and TCS was the online testing partner for the first time after Prometric India played the role for the last 5 years.

my 10th % is 64 and 12th % is 54 in biology can i get the admission in govt. b school for mba through cat?

ADIL KHAN Student Expert 3rd Apr, 2020

Hii Gagan,

Yes, you can. You'll be benefiting from the diversity factor which is just because you are from Biology background in your undergraduation. Though you class 10th and 12th marks are below average but no problem the more you score in CAT the more will it help you in getting a call from a good IIM/B-school. Please prepare for CAT wholeheartedly and give your best shot to CAT. With a composite score percentile in CAT of around 95-98 you can definitely get a call from the CAP IIMs and maybe the old IIMs too.

Though there are many other factors which judge if you will get a call from top B-school or not like your work-ex, extracurriculars etc.

You can reach out to us for more help,

my 10th % is 64 and 12th % is 54 can i get iim or any govt. b school with the basis of cat score or what score i have get to admission in iim ?

Rehan Alam Student Expert 3rd Apr, 2020

Dear Aspirant,

With your profile you might not be able to get any top IIM or baby IIMs. You can expect a call in the baby IIMs like Amritsar, etc @99+ but converting the call will be very difficult.

Moreover, if you are an engineer, you might not get that as well. I suggest you should focus on other exams like IIFT which are the Institute of Foreign Trade and are very good colleges have campus in Delhi and Kolkata. They did not give any weightage to past academic performance and give call only on the basis of exam performance and admission on the performance in interview.

Hope this helps. Thank you.

I have low percentage in 10th and 12th can i get the admission in iim or any reputated govt. b school with the basis of CAT score?

ADIL KHAN Student Expert 3rd Apr, 2020

Some B-schools consider your academics but still Yes you can get into top b-schools, provided you have a decent percentile in the common admissions test(CAT) too a cat percentile of 98+ for mediocre IIMs and 99+ for the top ones. But you can absolutely forget IIMs-  Ahmedabad , Bangalore,v Calcutta,Indore as they focus on acads and you have a very average profile as of now but still there are lots of other factors which govern whether you'll be gettin a call from the top IIMs or not like which company did you work for, if the company is one in which the selection rate is less or the selection criteria is hard, which college you did your undergraduate degree from, which course did you pursue, many other factors which play a role.

Please focus on your undergraduation marks too and do a lot of Internships to improve your profile and hence increase the chances of getting a call.
