XLRI, Jamshedpu conducted XAT 2020 on January 5 in computer-based mode. XAT 2020 analysis by Bulls Eye. The analysis by Bulls Eye on XAT 2020 will include the difficulty level of the question paper, section wise analysis, expected cutoff for XAT 2020 and so on.The level of XAT 2020 was slightly easier than that of XAT 2019 as this time’ Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation’ was manageable. The major surprise this year was that many questions in a few sections and a complete section of Decision Making did not have negative marking. However this aspect was not clearly mentioned in the main instructions and therefore lot of students were not able to take the advantage of this feature. This year the number, of questions, was 75. Total time for this section was 165 minutes. There was penalty for un-attempted questions (after 8 questions) and it was only of 0.10 marks. However this feature is not going to affect the overall score significantly. This year XAT excluded essay writing as announced. There were no NON-MCQ (TITA) questions as speculated before the exam. XAT is conducted for admission to management programmes of the various participating institutes. XAT 2020 exam centres will be spread across 71 cities. Read this article by Careers360 to know about the expected cutoff as per Bulls Eye, difficulty level of the question paper, an overview of the exam and section wise analysis of XAT 2020.

Verbal and Logical Ability

Verbal and logical ability section was moderately difficult as per the analysis by Bulls Eye’s experts.

The Verbal section was moderate to tough. The surprise was that RC questions did not have negative marking. Questions were based on various areas such as Reading Comprehension, Critical reasoning, Sentence Rearrangement, & grammar. The length of the passages was moderate. The RCs were based on “Knowledge becoming commodity”, and one was based on pointless jobs not reducing inspite of market economies. There was one RC based on a poem about “fire & ice by Robert Frost”. One RC was based on ‘unnatural sources of pleasure and habituation leading to emptiness’. The one was based on ‘terms like refugees/exile treated as non-negatives. The options were very close in reading comprehension section and therefore it was time consuming. Almost half of the questions in RCs were critical reasoning based. In order to answer the questions correctly it was imperative for the candidates to identify the traps set by the examiners.

As per the analysis by Bulls Eye experts for XAT 2020, attempting 18 to 22 questions will be comfortable. Refer the table below to know the number of questions that were asked from various areas:

There were 25 questions in general awareness consisting of Static GK based questions covering Books, , Geography, art forms of states , History etc. and Current Questions based on Science and Technology, Economic Data and General terms etc. The level of this section was moderate. Since there was no negative marking in this section so by using guesswork or by elimination of options, one could have got 3-4 questions correct in addition to what one knew actually.

Decision Making and Analytical Thinking

As per the analysis by Bulls Eye, questions in this section were a little tricky and the difficulty level was moderate. All Decision Making questions carried equal marks. This time DM also did not have negative marking. There were no questions based on analytical reasoning in this section. Decision Making consisted of 21 Questions based on contexts. Most questions were quite tricky and options were too close. The questions were based on Caselets and Case Studies taken from various areas like business organization, small business units, Ethical Dilemmas, and context based problem and solution The cases touched many diverse areas like pollution, profitability, e-commerce, supply chain, business expansion. Overall difficulty level of the section was moderate.:

how is IMI bhubneshwar ? whats the cat/xat cutoffs ? Curriculum and placements ?

Harshita Sharan Srivastava Student Expert 15th Feb, 2020

Hello Aspirant,

IMI Bhubhneswar is a good college and you will be able to get a call letter from the college if you have secured 60 percentile in any of the mba entrance exam. However the college does not offer good ROI. The college placement scenario is good. companies like Outlook magazine, Byju's, Jaro Education, ICICI bank, Varite, Executive B. School visit the collge for final placement. Average placement package is 6.5lpa to 11 LPA. For SIP the range of stipend for SIP is 7,500 to 25000 p. m. The ambiance at IMI Bhubaneswar offers a unique and complete learning experience with good infrastructure facilities.

I got 99 percentile in cmat and 91 percentile in Xat which college should I eligible?

ayush mishra 14th Feb, 2020

Jaineel, you have secured a very good score in CMAT and XAT Examination and this score would probably fetch you the admission to some of the top B-schools in the country. Also, the cutoff or the chances of your selection to any institute may also depends on your graduation credentials, gender, category status etc. and since you have not elaborated about it, so I would answer your query in a generic way. Although, there are many colleges which you can apply for as your scores would clear most of the cutoffs, however, here is a list of some of the top colleges which you may consider:-

JAMNALAL BAJAJ INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES (JBIMS), MUMBAI

SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, UPES, DEHRADUN

KJ SOMAIYA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES AND RESEARCH, MUMBAI

GREAT LAKES INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT, CHENNAI

PRIN LN WELINGKAR INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCH, MUMBAI

AMRITA SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, COIMBATORE

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF BANK MANAGEMENT, PUNE

LOYOLA INSTITUTE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, CHENNAI

SPJIMR, MUMBAI

KIIT SCHOOL OF ,MANAGEMENT, BHUBANESHWAR
