Careers360: What are your aspirations and why you opted for a Management programme?
Anjum Sheikh: My goal is to be among the Top Successful Managers and have my name in the Forbes list. This dream made me pursue MBA which, I am sure, will enhance my skills and help me achieve my goal of becoming an achiever. To become a good manager, I was required to learn interpersonal skills to lead cross cultural and cross functional teams, motivate people and how to take a company to exceptional growths, which can only be learned by a Management programme.
Careers360: Apart from NMAT, was there any other Management entrance exam in which you appeared and how was your performance?
Anjum Sheikh: Yes, besides NMAT, I appeared in SNAP and MAH-CET. My performance in both the exams was above satisfactory.
Careers360: Which B-Schools offered you final admissions? Why did you opt for NMIMS?
Anjum Sheikh: NMIMS is one of the top and finest B-Schools in India with excellent placement records. The alumni of this institute are successful and have achieved the top positions in their respective firms. It is the kind of culture that NMIMS holds along with its academic records that make it a perfect institute to enhance your potential.
The other B-Schools that offered final admissions includes Symbiosis, Pune.
Careers360: What was your preparation strategy for NMAT 2014?
Anjum Sheikh: I started my preparation for NMAT in January 2014. Initially, I spent time in clearing my doubts and learning the basics. Once my doubts were cleared and my basics were strong, I started with the mock tests. I made sure that each day I spend a minimum of 3 hours for solving problems. For cracking NMAT with a good score a person needs to increase his speed of solving problems and this was my basic stratergy.
Careers360: Do you think Coaching or Mentoring is important to crack NMAT or other MBA entrance tests?
Anjum Sheikh: I think coaching classes help you to clear your basics along with study materials and mock tests. But in the end it is the student himself who need to put efforts to crack any MBA exam. If a student is determined for what he wants, then he can get through the entrance exams without any coaching or mentoring.
Careers360: How did you manage NMAT preparation schedule along with your graduation studies?
Anjum Sheikh: My graduation semester exams were scheduled during the NMAT exam window. It was very difficult to manage and study both the courses simultaneously. But as in started my NMAT preparation 8-9 months before, it was a relief for me. It is important to follow a strict time management, accuracy, speed and knowledge plan. I use to do the same by spending at least 2 hrs daily for its preparation.
Careers360: Please share your preparation strategy for the Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical reasoning.
Anjum Sheikh: To prepare for language skills it is necessary to read lot of books and concentrate on increasing your vocabulary.
For Quantitative Skills it is important to clear the basics thoroughly and then practice problem solving. QS requires time management and accuracy, so one needs to get use to problem solving at a fast speed.
For Logical Reasoning practice is very important, you must practice and solve lot of problems as the questions are easy but are very much time consuming.
Careers360: What was your Time Management formula while taking the actual NMAT paper?
Anjum Sheikh: NMAT has 120 questions and 120 minutes to answer the entire paper. There are 3 sections and each section has some time duration allotted to it.
In NMAT 2014, Language skill had 32 questions and 22 minutes to solve. It had 2 reading comprehensions and other questions like jumbled paragraphs, analogies, synonyms, mark the error, fill in the blanks. So for this section time management and daily reading practise is necessary.
Quantitative skills had 48 questions and 60 minutes. Data Sufficiency and Data Interpretation are the most important part of this section. All you need is Accuracy and practice to crack this section of the exam.
Logical Reasoning had 40 questions and 38 minutes. In this section Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Arrangements, Series, Numerical Grid, family tree are the topics to focus on. This section is very time consuming which can be solved by managing time and attemptimg easy questions first.
Careers360: What were your strong and weak areas? How did you prepare and what special efforts did you put for improving your weak areas?
Anjum Sheikh: My weak area was Quantitative skill. I had realised this fact in the very begining and so I was able to concentrate on improvising this area. First, I cleared my basics and then I did lot of practice to increase my speed and accuracy.
Careers360: What is your advice for the Management aspirants who will take NMAT 2015?
Anjum Sheikh: It is easy to crack NMAT or any other exam if you follow a planned strategy. For achieving a great score in NMAT try to increase your speed and accuracy and learn time management.
Careers360: Do you think recreational activities are important while preparing for entrance exams? What were the activities that you did besides your preparations?
Anjum Sheikh: Recreational activities are often done for enjoyment, amusement, pleasure and are considered to be "fun". My recreational activities included listening music, gardening, pursuing my hobbies like quilling, sketching, watching movies and other creative work where I can take my mind off the studies. I love watching movies which are entertaining, inspirational and hold some meaning and my favorite is The Pursuit of Happyness. For every student recreational activities are important to recharge your mind and get ready to study again.

Is ECE ( in IIT Kgp) a good branch, to compete with C.Sc branh of NIT s ? Analyse the job opurtunities and higher studies etc.
Hi, according to your question it seems something similar. If I talk about top NIT's like NIT Trichy, MNNIT Allahabad or VNIT Nagpur then the CSE branch of these institutes gives a tough competition to CSE branch students IIT's also. Now coming on the IIT, Kharagpur's EEE branch so let me tell you EEE highest placement package from EEE branch is approx 1 Croreand the average package is approx 5 Lakhs. So overall you just see IIT Kharagpur is an IIT afterall so it will always be better than any of the NIT's in any branch.
If someone accepts NIT s any branch ,is it possible for him to sit in csab counseling
you can definitely sit for CSAB counselling even after you have accepted a seat in NITs. According to the guidelines for CSAB counselling , if you have seat in any of the NITs , while participating in CSAB counselling the seat which you have been allotted will remain safe and if you do get a seat from this round your previous allotted seat will be forfeited.
