Wondering which MBA entrance exam is easier to crack and how different it is from exams like CAT? MBA entrance tests such as MAT, ATMA, CMAT, NMAT, SNAP, IBSAT and MAH MBA CET differ considerably in their question patterns, time constraints and competition. CAT and XAT are generally known for demanding stronger preparation, while several other exams can be comparatively more approachable. But difficulty is not determined by the exam name alone; the section-wise level and overall pattern also matter, and these patterns keep evolving.

In fact, SNAP has recently added a new section, Ethics, Morality and Values, worth 10 marks, making it one of the most notable pattern changes among MBA entrance exams this year. So, where do each of the major MBA entrance exams stand now? Let's rank them on the basis of MBA entrance exam difficulty level.

MBA Entrance Exams: Easiest to Toughest

There is no official MBA entrance exam difficulty ranking. This editorial comparison uses the latest exam patterns and considers conceptual difficulty, time pressure, exam structure, competition and preparation requirements. Below is the detailed comparison based on these parameters.

How We Ranked MBA Entrance Exams by Difficulty

This ranking evaluates MBA entrance exams across five factors: conceptual difficulty, time pressure, exam structure, competition and preparation requirements. Since difficulty varies by candidate, the ranking represents a practical comparison rather than an official difficulty scale. This comparison considers the overall testing experience rather than only the difficulty of individual questions.

ATMA and MAT Are Relatively Easier MBA Exams

ATMA and MAT rank among the easier MBA entrance exams in this comparison, with an Easy-Moderate difficulty level. MAT has 150 questions across five sections, making speed and accuracy important despite its relatively lower conceptual difficulty.

    Who May Find It Difficult?

    Preparation Implications

    ATMA

Standard aptitude questions require accuracy and time management

Straightforward questions make it easier; speed and accuracy can make it harder

Candidates weak in basic aptitude or time management

Focus on fundamentals, practice and accuracy

    MAT

High question volume within limited time

Questions are generally approachable; high volume increases time pressure

    Candidates who solve slowly

Focus on speed, accuracy and quick question selection

    IBSAT and CMAT: Moderate Difficulty

IBSAT and CMAT generally fall into the moderate range, although their section structures create different preparation requirements.

Candidates weak in speed, accuracy or aptitude areas

Practise VA, RC, QA, DI and AR with timed tests

    CMAT

Multiple sections require preparation across different areas

Lower conceptual difficulty makes it easier; GK and Innovation & Entrepreneurship add preparation requirements

NMAT vs SNAP: Moderate Questions, High Speed — And a New Section for SNAP 2026

NMAT and SNAP show why question difficulty alone cannot determine how tough an MBA entrance exam is. Both require candidates to work quickly and make efficient question-selection decisions. SNAP's 2026 cycle brings an additional layer of difficulty: a brand-new section has been added to the paper.

    MBA Entrance Exam

    Why Is It Difficult?

What Makes It Easier / Harder?

    Who May Find It Difficult?

    Preparation Implications

    NMAT

Adaptive testing and sectional timing require quick decisions

Moderate conceptual difficulty makes it approachable; adaptive format and time limits increase difficulty

Candidates who struggle with speed or sectional time management

Practise under sectional time limits and improve speed and accuracy

    SNAP

High speed requirement (60 questions in 60 minutes) plus a newly introduced Ethics, Morality and Values section

Moderate question difficulty in most sections eases it; extreme time pressure and an untested new section (no past papers to reference) make it harder

Candidates who solve slowly, and those unprepared for ethics-based reasoning questions

Prioritise speed, accuracy and quick question selection; also build familiarity with ethics- and values-based MCQs, since there's no prior-year pattern to draw on

    SNAP 2026 Exam Pattern Update

SNAP has officially expanded from three sections to four for the 2026 cycle. The Symbiosis International (Deemed University) has added a new Ethics, Morality and Values section, and question weightages across the existing General English and Analytical/Logical Reasoning sections have been redistributed to accommodate it. The exam remains a 60-minute, computer-based test with 60 MCQs total, each carrying 4 answer choices, +1 mark for a correct answer and -0.25 for an incorrect one.

Because this section has never appeared before, there are no previous-year questions to identify recurring topics or establish a definite preparation pattern, which arguably nudges SNAP's difficulty up a notch for 2026 aspirants compared to earlier years. SNAP 2026 registration opened on August 21, 2026, with the exam scheduled across three slots: December 13, 19 and 26, 2026.

The comparison below highlights the major differences between NMAT and SNAP.

Thus, SNAP is particularly speed-intensive and now conceptually broader with the addition of Ethics, Morality and Values, while NMAT combines speed, sectional timing and adaptive testing.

MAH MBA CET: Difficult Because of Time Pressure

MAH MBA CET is another exam where speed plays a major role. Its questions may not be as conceptually difficult as the toughest CAT or XAT questions, but candidates must process a large number of questions quickly.

    MAH MBA CET

Large question volume creates intense time pressure

Candidates with slow calculations or reasoning speed

XAT: One of India's Toughest MBA Exams

XAT is generally considered one of the toughest MBA entrance exams, primarily because of its Decision Making section.

CAT Difficulty Level: Conceptual Difficulty and Competition

CAT is generally placed at the toughest end of the major MBA entrance exam difficulty ranking because of its high conceptual difficulty, challenging DILR sets, unpredictable question selection and intense percentile competition.

CAT vs XAT vs NMAT vs SNAP: Which MBA Exam Is Toughest?

CAT is not always easier than XAT for everyone. A candidate weak in Decision-Making could find XAT more difficult, whereas a candidate weak in DILR will find CAT more challenging. Similarly, a candidate strong in speed-based aptitude but unfamiliar with ethics-and-values reasoning could now find SNAP 2026 comparatively tougher than in previous years.

Which Is the Easiest MBA Entrance Exam in India?

Students preferring ease in the test find ATMA and MAT as the tests most suitable for them.

However, an easier exam does not mean easier admission. Exam difficulty, admission competitiveness and college quality are different factors. Your target B-school and required percentile should therefore be the deciding factors.

Which MBA Entrance Exam Should You Take?

The best exam depends on the colleges and regions you are targeting. Start with the target B-schools and then shortlist the exams they accept, instead of blindly choosing an exam that seems easy.

State-Level MBA Entrance Exams in India

Other than the national-level MBA entrance exams, different state-level MBA entrance exams are conducted in the country, offering admissions to management institutes in a particular region. These exams help enhance the admission chances of students targeting colleges in a particular state.

Can You Prepare for Multiple MBA Entrance Exams Together?

Yes, you can. The same preparation works for Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability, and Reading Comprehension, which are common to all MBA entrance exams.

But along with the common preparation, you need some extra preparation for each exam, like:

    • XAT: Decision Making

    • CMAT: General Awareness and Innovation & Entrepreneurship

    • SNAP: Speed practice, plus foundational reading in ethics, values and workplace/business morality (a newly introduced 10-mark section for 2026)

    • NMAT: Sectional time management

MBA Entrance Exam Difficulty Ranking: Final Verdict

The practical ranking from easiest to toughest is:

    ATMA → MAT → IBSAT → CMAT → NMAT → SNAP → MAH MBA CET → XAT → CAT

Note on the 2026 update: SNAP's relative position could shift slightly for the 2026 cycle given the newly added Ethics, Morality and Values section (10 questions, 10 marks). Since this is the first year the section is being tested, there is no prior-year data to establish its actual difficulty or scoring trends, until enough test-takers report back, this remains a provisional read, and SNAP may edge marginally closer to MAH MBA CET in overall difficulty for this cycle.
