DU BMS reversed to 3 year programme post FYUP withdrawal
Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) in Delhi University will be run in 3-year format after the FYUP withdrawal by the central University.
According to University Grants Commission (UGC), the Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) programme will be a 3-year course as the Four Year Under Graduate Programme (FYUP) has been scrapped now.
However, the University is yet to get the clarity on the nomenclature of the programme. Last year, the BMS programme was introduced by combining 3 under graduate Business Administration programmes namely Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS), Bachelor of Business Economics (BBE) and Bachelor of Financial and Investment Analysis (BFIA). With introduction to FYUP, the duration of the BMS programme became 4 years. Though UGC has mentioned that the duration of the programme will be reversed to 3 years from 2014-15 academic year, there has been no mention whether the old programme names like BBS, BBE and BFIA will also be restored for the programmes which were run in such name prior to last academic year.
“The BMS course will be of 3 year now as per the UGC directives, but we are yet to get any directive on reversing the BMS nomenclature,” says Malay Neerav, Media Cordination and Joint Dean, Student Welfare.

In a notification, UGC has said that following the withdrawal of the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) by the University of Delhi under the directives of the University Grants Commission, “students admitted to the various 4-year Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) programme under the colleges of the Delhi University in academic year 2013-14 have expressed apprehension regarding the nomenclature and duration of the programme in which they were admitted.”
UGC also mentioned that considering the apprehension of the students who have taken admission in the academic year 2013-14 and the colleges offering the BMS programme, following course of action has been taken:
- Students already admitted to the 4-year BMS programme during 2013-14 only by the various colleges under the University of Delhi may continue in this programme; however the duration of the programme shall be of 3 years.
- As such, for this purpose, the colleges under the University of Delhi, which admitted students in academic year 2013-14 to the BMS programme may, wherever required, obtain appropriate approval of the regulatory bodies such as the UGC and the AICTE and ensure that students admitted in the programmes are not put into any disadvantage.
