CAT 2018 Live Updates - CAT 2018 was conducted on November 25, 2018, in two slots by Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C). CAT 2018 was held in computer-based mode across 374 exam centres in 147 cities in the country. The first slot for CAT 2019 was held from 9 am to 12 noon. The second slot was scheduled between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm. As per IIM Calcutta, as many as 2.41 lakh candidates had applied for CAT 2018. Candidates appearing for CAT had to report at their respective exam centres at least two hours prior to the commencement of the examination. 2.15 PM: Entry to the exam centre has closed.

1 PM: Entry for the second slot has begun, no bags and mobile phones allowed

12. 30 PM: Candidates for the second slot of CAT 2018 have started arriving at the exam centres. Candidates will be allowed to enter from 1 PM. Entry for slot 2 of CAT 2019 closes at 2.14 PM

12 Noon: CAT 2018 Slot 1 completed

9.20 AM: Late comers have been denied entry into the centre.

9 AM: CAT 2018 Slot 1 has commenced. 

8.50 AM: Late comers are still being allowed to enter the exam centre. Candidates who have jewellry on them have been asked to remove the same before entering the exam centre.

8.45 AM: Gates to the exam centres have been closed as per schedule.

8.40 AM: Centre official are announcing on microphones for last entries.

8.15 AM: Entry to the examination centre has started. 

8 AM: Students have been asked to deposit their baggage mobile phones and shoes outside their examination hall before entering. There is a special counter for depositing mobile phones. 

7.30 AM: As there are very few candidates, there has been a confusion about the entry to the examination centre. 

7 AM: Students have started reporting at the exam centre.

CAT 2018 Exam Pattern

CAT 2018 was held for a duration of three hours. Candidates have to answer 100 multiple choice questions which is divided into three sections such as Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Quantitative Ability (QA) and Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR). As per the marking scheme prescribed by IIM Calcutta, each correct answer will be given 3 marks while 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. Candidates must note that negative marking will not be applicable for Non- MCQ questions in CAT 2018.

For you to score overall 95 percentile, you need to score atleast 85 sectional percentile. This means your score in QA, VARC, DLR should be nothing less than 85 percentile separately.

Is GAT and CAT both the exam will be on same day?

Are you talking about GATE and CAT examination.
If yes, then no CAT and GATE examination dates are different.GATE examination is in February 2020 and CAT examination is in November 2020
If you are talking about GITAM GAT examination then, it's a No, GAT examination is in April 2020.
No  two different government examination/ private national level examinations will be conducted on the same day.

is thereb any separate exam from cat for ibs hyderabad like ibsat ?

IBS hyderabad is one of the top b school in india. You can get admission in ibs hyderabad by qualifying cat or by giving IBSAT. IBSAT is the paper organized by ICFAI university for giving admission in its 9 institute. Cut off of CAT of ibs hyderabad is around 80%ile. But it is easiwr to get admission in IBShyderabad by giving IBSAT In comarison to CAT. Programme fees of IBShyderabad is around 14lacs.


i have been preparing for CAT 2019 but still not able to solve LR DI ques pls suggest can i leave this section and focus on other sections ?

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning needs to be practised as much as possible. Comparison of data, Data Analysis, taking clues, interpreting missing data, coming to conclusions and making future projections will be covered under this Category. The questions here are interlinked and so if you get one formula correct, cracking the next few questions will be easy. So it's important to memorise and practise formulae. You should cover topics like Data tables, Data Charts, Bar Diagrams, Pie Charts, Graphs, Data Comparison and Analysis.

Preparation tips:

As this is the most tricky section, this needs a lot of practise. Solve as many sample papers as possible to get the hang of the section. Make notes when required. Regular practise can help you understand and solve the questions easily as time goes on.

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning Books For CAT:

1.A Modern Approach to Logical Reasoning( by R.S. Agarwal)
This CAT book by R.S. Agarwal is to start with the most basic reasoning problem as it is quite simple to understand. It is segregated into different sections such as logic, statements, inferences and arguments, assumptions, conclusions, course of actions, logical puzzles, etc.

2.How to Prepare for Logical Reasoning for CAT book (by Arun Sharma)
This book by Tata McGraw Hill contains all topics to be considered under Logical Reasoning for CAT as well as other entrance exams. Each topic is explained with solved examples followed by a series of problems with varied difficulty levels to solve which gives an individual enough practice for this section.

3.How to Prepare for Data Interpretation for CAT book (by Arun Sharma)
This book focuses on all areas of Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency. It provides and emphasizes on developing our calculations to get an edge with DI. This book also provides you with previous years questions, Model and Sample test papers.

4.Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation for the CAT (by Nishit Sinha)
This book covers fundamental and advanced topics under the aforementioned section which are explained with the help of solved examples, case lets and exercises to do. It is useful for various other exams as well.

5.Data Interpretation (by Nishit Sinha)
Practice Book for CAT and Other MBA Entrance Examinations( by Nishit Sinha):
This book provides adequate practice and to sharpen the skills for Data Interpretation. It is also quite useful for other competitive exams like NMAT, GMAT, SNAP, XAT, CMAT, etc.
