Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) is the only postgraduate programme available at IBS Kolkata. Careers360: Tell us something about yourself such as from which place are you from?

Answer: I am Debsabarna Banik, I have completed my 4-year degree course in Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from Netaji Subhash Engineering College, and completed my schooling from Carmel High School. I was born and brought up in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Careers360: Presently which course are you pursuing and in which year are you?

Answer: Currently, I am pursuing PGPM from ICFAI Business School Kolkata and I am in the first year of the course.

Careers360: Did you face any difficulty in the initial months when you joined the institute?

Answer: I did not find any difficulty as such; rather I enjoyed coming to college as it was fun and challenging, as well. A new course, new things to learn and new people to meet. Got to create many connections and encountered great exposure.

Careers360: What activities are offered in the institute? Are there any clubs etc for the various extracurricular activities? Which ones have you taken up and are a part of?

Answer: There are a bunch of activities offered in this institute starting from main domain clubs such as Finance club, Marketing club, Human Resource club, Analytics club and some other Personality Development clubs such as Cultural Club, Social Responsibility Club and Sports Club. I have always been interested in the Cultural Club, though I am not a committee member but am always keen to participate in the events and have also actively done so.

Careers360: Describe a typical day at your institute. What do you do from the time you wake up till you go to sleep?

Answer: Since I stay at a distance of around 20 km away from the campus I need to wake up at 6 in the morning, freshen up and get ready for the day. I head towards the bus stand at around 7:30 AM to catch up the queue for the bus which usually starts at 8:05 AM. I reach campus by 9:15 AM with usual traffic control. Our classes start at 9:30 AM and stretch maximum till 6:15 in the evening. That is a peak traffic time and I reach home almost at 8:30 to 8:45 PM. I offer tuition to a class X student which I need to cater 3 days a week from 9 PM. I then come home at 11 at night, have my dinner, do my classwork, complete my personal chores and then go off to sleep.

Careers360: Tell us about the faculty-student ratio here and about the teacher-student relationship in your understanding.

Answer: We have a good number of permanent faculty as well as visiting faculties who give their best to serve the purpose. The faculty student ratio is 1:13. We have a very harmonious relationship with our teachers where everyone is friendly and warm towards us.

Careers360: What facilities do you have on the campus? What do you like here the most which you feel is unique and differentiating?

Answer: We have a centralized air-conditioned comfortable campus with a well equipped library on the ground floor, furnished reception on the first floor, a computer lab on the second floor, Canteen,Table Tennis and Carrom facilities on the fourth floor and a spacious Rooftop Auditorium. We also have a parking area for teachers as well as students. I like the fact that every classroom has a smartboard which makes the lessons interesting as well as makes it much more convenient to give the presentations.

Careers360: How comfortable are your hostels and how about the cleanliness factor over there?

Answer: Since I come from home, I do not have any idea about the hostels.

Careers360: What about the medical facilities? Can you avail requisite medical attention if needed in an emergency?

Answer: The campus does have basic medical facilities and medicines are also available on the first floor in case of any emergency.

Careers360: How do you balance your studies, projects, exams and other activities?

Answer: Work-life balance is the key to happiness. I am totally devoted to this course and hence I divide my time accordingly to finish all the assignments on time. It does sometimes take a few sacrifices such as sleeping time and social hangouts but at the end of the day we have to prioritize the right things at the right time.

Careers360: Tell us about the clubs and societies at the campus and how significant are they from your point of view or students point of view?

Answer: All the clubs I mentioned above are quite active and particular in their duties. Many events and activities are held by each club such as visits to old age homes and orphanages by the Social Responsibility Club, the IBS Football League by the Sports Club, different events like dancing and singing competition, inaugural dance and fashion in annual fest by the Cultural Club and many more. It is quite refreshing to take part in these and it is quite significant in this hectic daily schedule of ours.

Careers360: Is there any in-house magazine or journal for the latest events or happenings at the institute?

Answer: Yes there is an in-house magazine which covers the latest events and happenings. It is called Konnects.

Careers360: What are the popular hangouts at the institute? What, according to you, are the most-visited places nearby?

Answer: Since our campus is situated at a prime location in Salt Lake Sector V, it has many attractions and cafés to visit nearby. There is RDB Boulevard just 700 meters away which offers quite affordable movie tickets and a cozy environment and a restaurant named Levels just behind our college which I think are the most visited places.

Careers360: How do you spend your leisure time at the campus?

Answer: I usually hangout with my friends inside the campus or sometimes catch up with them outside the campus with just a small cup of tea or a plate of hot Maggi.

Careers360: Do you have any Facebook page of your campus where the students express their views, jokes or ideas, or maybe even a blog where they write about their experience of life at campus?

Answer: Yes we do have a Facebook page as well as an Instagram handle to post different videos and posts about the students’ various experiences.

Careers360: What type of companies come for campus recruitment and what percentage of students get placed every year? How is the recruitment process here?

Answer: A large range of companies visit here including the Big 4 companies such as Deloitte and PwC and different banks like ICICI, HDFC etc. Every year almost 95% of the students are placed and the ones not placed are those who opt out from taking placements or would be joining their family business or starting off on their own. The IBS recruitment process is quite smooth and technical. All the information as well as the training for the placements is provided well before time.

IBS is a good brand indeed. But that is Hyderabad Campus. IBS Kolkata offers PGPM degree approved by AIU, which is equivalent to MBA. It is UGC and AICTE recognized, ranked 2nd in West Bengal. But the Kolkata campus is comparatively smaller in size with a few facilities, having a placement record of 99%, with the average CTC being 5.82 and no international placements in 2019. The highest (national) package offered was 10 LPA and a total of 84 recruiters participated for on campus placements.

For Praxis it is Rs. 7.2 LPA average for the batch, Highest was Rs. 10.50 LPA, this is for 40 students of the batch.

on the other hand IBS has 5.82 Lakhs per annum average with higesht being 10 lakhs per annum, a total of 84 recruiters participated for on campus placements nearly 99percent of the batch was placed.

Hi Silli,

If you want to join IBS then go for IBS Hyderabad or for IBS Mumbai.As the IBS kolkata is not that good.If you see in terms of ROI(Returns On Investment) then I will suggest you to go for IBS Mumbai as the fee structure of IBS Mumbai is same as IBS Kolkata but the placement is good at IBS Mumbai.If you want to go for IBS Kolkata then go for Marketing only.

The college offers a certificate program in Management, which is equivalent to an MBA degree. Admission to the program is through the IBSAT exam. The minimum cut off required in the IBSAT exam is 66 marks for the Kolkata branch.
