ICFAI Business School (IBS), Dehradun is a constituent unit of ICFAI University. ICFAI Business School is recognised by the UGC (University Grants Commission). IBS Dehradun courses are BBA, BBA (FIA), BA Hons Economics, BCom Hons, MBA and PhD in Management.
To pursue an MBA course at IBS Dehradun, students need to secure a valid score in the entrance exams, such as IBSAT/ CAT/ GMAT/ NMAT by GMAC/ XAT. An MBA student, Bhargav Joshi from IBS Dehradun is talking about his campus life experience with Careers 360. Check the detailed conversation below.
Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. (a bit of the background like graduation, place and any such thing)
Bhargav Joshi: My name is Bhargav Joshi, and I hail from Nainital, Uttarakhand. I hold a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) from Kumaun University, along with a Master’s degree in Economics from IGNOU. Currently, I am pursuing my Master of Business Administration (MBA) from ICFAI University, Dehradun.
My academic background has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of commerce, economics, and management, enabling me to develop strong analytical, organisational, and decision-making skills that I aim to apply in a professional setting.
Careers360: Tell us something about your IBS campus and what made you choose it?
Bhargav Joshi: The IBS Dehradun campus offers a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment that focuses on both academic excellence and practical learning. The institution is known for its case-based learning approach, experienced faculty, and strong emphasis on industry interaction, which together help students develop real-world business insights and leadership skills.
What drew me to IBS Dehradun was its balanced focus on academics, personality development, and career readiness. The university’s reputation for producing industry-ready professionals, its collaborative learning culture, and opportunities for internships and live projects strongly aligned with my aspirations to build a career in management and finance.
Careers360: What is the course you are pursuing at IBS and what made you choose this specialisation?
Bhargav Joshi: I am currently pursuing an MBA with dual specialisation in Finance and Marketing at IBS Dehradun. I chose this specialisation because it offers a strong combination of analytical and strategic skills that are essential in today’s competitive business environment.
Finance helps me understand the quantitative and decision-making aspects of business, such as financial planning, investment analysis, and risk management. On the other hand, Marketing enhances my ability to understand consumer behaviour, market dynamics, and brand strategy.
Together, these specialisations provide a comprehensive understanding of how businesses operate — financially and strategically — enabling me to make well-informed and balanced business decisions in the future.
Careers360: Summer internship is mandatory in all IBS campuses. Where did you pursue it, and what was the duration? What were the steps to get into it?
Bhargav Joshi: I completed my three-month summer internship at AIM India Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, where I gained practical exposure in both finance and marketing domains. My work involved activities such as GST filing, bookkeeping, auditing, and financial documentation in Tally, along with assisting in customer perception analysis and marketing research.
At IBS Dehradun, the internship selection process includes a Group Discussion (GD) to evaluate communication and teamwork abilities, followed by a personal interview to assess subject knowledge and suitability for the role. After successfully clearing both rounds, I was selected to intern with AIM India Pvt. Ltd., which proved to be a valuable learning experience that enhanced my analytical, technical, and professional skills.
Careers360: Please give details on the assistance you received from the faculty, peers and placement office with regard to the internships?
Bhargav Joshi: During my internship, I received valuable guidance and support from my faculty mentor, Dr Hansini Premi, who guided me at every stage of the internship process. She helped me in understanding the objectives of the project, structuring the report, and adapting to the corporate environment effectively.
In addition, the placement office at IBS Dehradun played a crucial role by coordinating with companies, organising the selection process, and providing regular updates and assistance throughout the internship placement period. My peers also offered continuous support and shared insights that helped me perform better during my internship journey.
Careers360: How was your experience with the summer internships? What are the key takeaways that you can look back on from it?
Bhargav Joshi: My summer internship experience at AIM India Pvt. Ltd. was highly enriching and insightful. It provided me with the opportunity to apply my classroom learning to real business situations and gain practical exposure to both finance and marketing functions. Working on tasks such as GST filing, auditing, bookkeeping, and customer perception analysis helped me understand the operational and analytical aspects of a business.
The key takeaways from the internship include the importance of time management, effective communication, teamwork, and attention to detail. I also learned how to adapt to a corporate environment, meet deadlines, and approach problems with a solution-oriented mindset. Overall, the experience strengthened my professional confidence and gave me a clearer perspective on my future career goals.
