1. Careers 360: Tell us something about yourself. (A bit of the background like graduation, place and any such thing).
Ms. Aparajita: My name is Aprajita Bahadur, and I have been born and brought up in Delhi. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA) from IITM College, IP University, New Delhi and I am currently pursuing my PGPM from IBS Gurgaon. Apart from academics, I am also a part of the Alumni Relations Cell and the Marketing Research Club at IBS.
2. Careers 360: Tell us something about your IBS campus and what made you choose it
Ms. Aparajita: I am pursuing my course from the Gurgaon Campus of IBS. This was my choice as it is placed in one of the corporate hubs in India, giving an access to great opportunities. Apart from that, the college also follows a very industry-aligned pedagogy using case studies, business cases and projects. It also has a good placement support having more than 95% placement record and a strong Alumni network which helps the students in preparing for the corporate world.
Q3. What is the course you are pursuing at IBS and what made you choose this specialisation?
Ms. Aparajita: I am pursuing the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) at IBS as I believe it will help me in building the skills and capabilities required to advance in my professional career. Since I wanted to make a career for myself in the field of marketing research, brand management and consulting, this is helping me equip myself with the right set of skills to prepare for the opportunities.
Q4. A summer internship is mandatory in all IBS campuses. Where did you pursue it and what was the duration? What were the steps to get into it?
Ms. Aparajita: I pursued my Summer Internship from Evalueserve which is a global professional services provider. The duration of the internship was of 4 months. IBS has a dedicated Internship Cell particularly to help students find internship opportunities in the industry and company of their interest. Campus invited Evalueserve to the campus for Internship hiring. The process of selection consisted of a pre-placement talk, an aptitude test, and multiple rounds of interviews. I was happy to make the cut and get selected for the internship.
Q5: Please give details on the assistance you received from the faculty, peers and placement office with regard to the internships?
Ms. Aparajita: The faculty was extremely helpful in preparing for the interviews and building on practical knowledge. They guided us on how to solve cases, guesstimates, and prepare answers for domain specific questions, likely to be asked in the interviews. Apart from the faculty, peer learning also played an important role as it helped me see the business problems from a different perspective and develop my unique one, too. Placement office and Internship Cell work together to bring the best organizations for meaningful projects for internships to the campus.
Q6. How was your experience with the summer internships? What are the key takeaways that you can look back on from it?
Ms. Aparajita: My summer internship at Evalueserve helped me understand the corporate world better and gave me exposure to how problems solved in real business world. The internship played a major role in helping me prepare for my placements. It helped me land my dream role in a consulting firm for final placements. My overall experience has been very transformative and fulfilling. Some of the key takeaways from my internship are that we learn by doing things practically and making mistakes is a part of that learning process. Also, an internship is extremely useful in preparing for the corporates, building upon the base of academic knowledge and bridging the gap between theories and real-world application.
