XAT percentile is basically a candidate's rank against all the candidates of that year. It can also be described as the total percentage of applicants who scored less than or equal to a particular candidate.

Now let's take an example and understand how the XAT percentile is calculated.

For example, if a candidate's XAT percentile is 99.7, his performance was better than 99.7 percent of the total XAT candidates that year. Hence, one can say that the XAT percentile is an indicator of a candidate's relative performance over other candidates.

Total XAT Percentile = Number of candidates – Rank of a candidate/Number of candidates x 100.

Suppose 10,000 appeared in the XAT, and candidate A scored the highest. That means 9,999 candidates scored less than candidate A. Then the candidate A's XAT percentile will be 9,999/10,000x100=99.9.
