How many students will take CAT 2024?

The CAT (Common Admission Test) 2024 is likely to be held on November 26, 2024. The total number of students who are expected to take the CAT 2024 is more than 2 lakhs. The IIM Calcutta will conduct the CAT exam in 2024. The official notification for CAT 2024 is expected to be released in the upcoming July month. The 2024 CAT registration is expected to begin in August.
CAT is the most anticipated MBA entrance exam in the country. It is the gateway for many candidates to get into the famous IIMs and other top-rated B schools across India. Almost every management institute in the country accepts CAT scores for admission to its MBA/PGDM courses.
Eligibility to take CAT 2024
Satisfying the eligibility criteria is the first step towards taking the CAT 2024 exam. The latest CAT eligibility criteria for different category candidates to take CAT 2024 as specified by the CAT authorities is given below.
Candidates having a bachelor's degree in any stream or its equivalent from a UGC-recognized university.
Should secure at least 50% for the General category and 45 % for the SC/ST/PwD category
The final year of a bachelor's degree is also eligible to apply for the CAT exam 2024. However, such candidates will have to submit the certificate of completion from the principal or registrar of their university or institution on or before the date stipulated by the respective IIMs.
Candidates with work experience will have some added preference/ weightage. However, work experience is not mandatory as per CAT exam eligibility 2024.
Total Applicants for CAT 2024
The total number of applicants for CAT 2024 is expected to cross the 3 lakh mark. Out of the total applicants, approximately 2-2.5 lakh candidates will take the CAT 2024 exam. The competition for the CAT exam has been on a constant rise for the last few years. The MBA trend is considered to be the main reason behind it.
Students qualifying for CAT 2024
From all the candidates around 10,000 candidates will be clearing the CAT cutoff. They will receive the callback for the Personal Interview rounds at various IIMs. The total number of seats at IIMs is around 5500. With over 2 lakh candidates taking the CAT exam, only a handful will be able to make it to the IIMs. Therefore the success rate of converting an IIM is around 2%.

2. Who will conduct CAT 2024?
IIM Calcutta will be conducting the CAT 2024 exam. All the aspects such as exam pattern, marking scheme, formulation of questions, etc will be decided by the IIM Calcutta.
3. What is the success ratio of a CAT exam?
The success rate of the CAT exam is less than 3% (around 2.17%). The rate for converting an IIM successfully through CAT stands at a mere 2%. It compels candidates to look for other alternatives.
4. Which IIM has the lowest cutoff?
Lower tier IIMs like IIM Raipur, IIM Nagpur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Bodh Gaya, and IIM Sirmaur have fairly lower CAT cutoffs compared to the top IIMs. The cutoff stays at 90 to 95 for these IIMs. Candidates with lower CAT percentile and weaker profiles can apply to these IIMs.

Getting admission to an IIM without taking the CAT is possible through alternative routes such as:
1. Executive MBA (PGPX,EPGP,ect .) : Many IIMs offer Executive MBA programs for experienced professionals, which may require GMAT scores instead of CAT .
2.Integrated programs: Some IIMs offer integrated programs like IPM (Integrated Program in Management), where admission cab be based on entrance exams other than CAT.
3.Doctoral programs (Ph.D.): Some IIMs accept GMAT/GRE scores for their doctoral programs .
4. Specialized Courses: IIMs offer various short-term and ccertificate programs that don't require CAT scores.

Generally admissions are given based on your rank. So based on your overall percentile in JEE your rank could be between 56470 - 63480 approximately.
Unfortunately, Based on the marks you scored, it will be difficult to get admitted into NIT Trichy under OBC category. However there is also a second chance for you to attend for JEE, so I recommend you to take that chance and score better.
