Chitkara University Mohali was founded in 2010, by the Punjab State Legislature under “The Chitkara University Act”.The university confers UG, PG and PhD level degrees as per the UGC Act, 1956. Chitkara University provides opportunities to students, to go to universities and institutions abroad on exchange programmes, which assists them to obtain global exposure. The university is equidistant from major cities like Chandigarh, Mohali, Ambala, Panchkula, and Patiala. The university offers UG, PG and Doctoral level degree programmes in fields like engineering, management, applied health sciences, design, etc.

She is pursuing her bachelor's degree in business management. In her interview, Simar shares her experience and life at the university. How did she choose the BBA programme at Chitkara? Careers360. Tell us something about yourself such as from which place are you from?

Simar Mann. My name is Simar Mann. I’m an NCC cadet in the Air Wing. I’m also an Avid reader. I did my class 10th from Army Public School, Bathinda and class 12th from Army Public School, Delhi. I belong to Bathinda, Punjab.

Careers360. Presently which course are you pursuing and in which year are you?

Simar Mann. I am pursuing BBA with specialization in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and I’m in the 2nd year of my degree.

Careers360. Did you face any difficulty in the initial months when you joined the institute?

Simar Mann. No, I didn't face any difficulty in the Initial months of joining the University because our Mentor guided and helped whenever I or other students faced an obstacle or came unstuck.

Careers360. What activities are offered in the institute? Are there any clubs etc for the various extracurricular activities? Which ones have you taken up and are a part of?

Simar Mann. Our University has various clubs to develop skills like Photography, creative writing, public speaking, sports and also a Panache Club. I’m not a part of any extracurricular activity club as I’m a part of our college NCC. Many activities are held by NCC like Blood Donation camps, Environment Awareness rallies and I myself have taken part in Group Discussion competitions and Quiz competitions conducted by NCC.

Careers360. Describe a typical day at your institute – what do you do from the time you wake up till you go to sleep?

Simar Mann. I have two classes in a day and both are of 3 hour duration. My morning class continues from 9:15 AM to 12:15 PM and our evening class continues from 1:15 PM to 4:15 PM. We get a Lunch break of 1 hour between the classes. Since I’m a Day Scholar I reach home by 6 PM and study for nearly 2 hours and then go to sleep by 10 PM..

Careers360. Tell us about the faculty-student ratio here and about the teacher-student relationship in your understanding.

Simar Mann. The student faculty ratio is as per the UGC norms. Teachers are helpful at all times and are supportive.

Careers360. What facilities do you have on campus? What do you like here the most which you feel is unique and differentiating?

Simar Mann. Our University has an Explore Hub that promotes Entrepreneurship and a sports Complex that includes a swimming pool, badminton courts, squash court and a volleyball ground . The Swimming pool of our university was even used to impart swimming classes for NCC Cadets.

Careers360. How comfortable are your hostels and how about the cleanliness factor over there?

Simar Mann. The hostel rooms are clean and spacious with all the amenities required by students and Wi-Fi connection, 24/7 water supply, Food that ensures Balanced Diet and friendly staff in the Hostels.

Careers360. What about the medical facilities? Can you avail requisite medical attention if needed in an emergency?

Simar Mann. Our University has an In-build Dispensary and a General Physician. Our college has also tied up with Neelam Hospital which is at very close proximity.

Careers360. How do you balance your studies, projects, exams and other activities?

Simar Mann. I tend to revise the topics being taught on a daily basis and socialize or spend time with my friends on the weekend.

Careers360. Tell us about the clubs and societies at the campus and how significant are they from your point of view or students point of view?

Simar Mann. The clubs help inculcate both soft and hard skills in students. We have clubs for Photography, Art, Cultural dance, Entrepreneurship, Sports and a Panache Club. Our university also has a Happiness Club that teaches certain methods to maintain good mental health to its members.

Simar Mann. I like to spend my leisure time in our University’s Library.

Simar Mann. Yes, the University has an official page on Instagram and Facebook where it posts all updates regarding competitions and events and also has a page on LinkedIn where it posts about the placements and major achievements.

Simar Mann. DHL, Flipkart , Hettich and Safe Express are some of the companies that come for campus recruitment. Internships are provided to us by companies like Metro Cash and Carry, Safexpress, Om Logistics and many other companies that have Logistics and Supply chain Management as a major part of their operations.
