The percentile is calculated using a formula for the candidates of BBA. This method is called the equipercentile method. The score of percentile is different from percentage. In this method, percentile of each candidate is calculated using the raw marks of other candidates in the same session. These percentiles are equated and then converted into normal marks on a common scale for the understanding of marks by the students.
The percentile score is calculated as below.
Percentile score = | Number of candidates who scored equal to or less than the candidates | * 100 |
Total number of candidates in that exam section |
The normalisation marks are calculated on a common scale using the equipercentile method that involves four steps as follows.
Calculating the percentile of students in each session using the raw marks of the students of different sessions.
Arrange these percentiles in a descending order by noting the raw marks of the candidates in each session.
Calculating the marks of the students using an interpolation method (estimating the missing marks of the students who missed one session but attended another session).
Calculate the normalised marks of each student on a common scale.
Candidates to note that every year the percentile score changes based on the factors such as exam difficulty levels, the total number of students taking the exam, the normalisation method and also the trends of the previous years. Based on the calculation, the score of 180 is considered a moderate to good score.
Also considering the previous year trends, the score of 180 marks in terms of percentile is in a range of 75 to 85. For admission into the top BBA colleges in India, the cutoff score is considered by the colleges or universities using the normalisation method.
