    Correct Option: 1

    Solution:

    If polynomial is exactly divisible by x + 7, then on putting x = -7, value of polynomial must be zero.

    On substituting x = - 7 in the polynomial

    • (-7)4 + 10 (-7)3 + 25 (-7)2 + 15 (-7) + m = 0
    • 2401 – 3430 + 1225 – 105 + m = 0
    • 91 + m = 0
    • m = -91

    Q. The population of a village is 5000. If in a year, the number of males were to increase by 5% and that of females by 3% annually, the population would grow to 5202 at the end of the year. If M is the number of males and F is the number of females in the village, then (M,F)=

    1. (3000,2000)
    2. (2800,2200)
    3. (2600,2400)
    4. (2700,2300)

    Correct Option: 3

    Solution:

    Initial population = 5000

    New population = 5202

    Percentage increase = [(5202 – 5000)/5000] x 100%

    = 404/ 100 %

    By using Alligation:

    Male Female

    Percentage increase 5% 3%

    Overall Increase 404/100 %

    Ratio of population (404/100)-3 : 5-(404/100)

    104/100 : 96/100

    26 : 24

    So ration of Male & female in total population of 5000 is 26: 24

    So, no. of male (M) = 2600 & no. of female(F) = 2400

    Q. Two poles of height 6 m and 11 m stand vertically upright on a plane ground. If the distance between their foot is 12 m, then distance between their tops is

    1. 12 m
    2. 14 m
    3. 13 m
    4. 11 m

    Correct Option: 3

    Solution:

    1716436391520

    Pole 1, AB = 6m

    Pole 2, CD = 11m

    Distance between their foot, BD = 12m

    And AB & CD perpendicular BD.

    So, on this basis ED = 6m. & AE = 12 m.

    Triangle ACE is a right-angle triangle, wherein AE = 12m., CE = 5 m.

    So, by applying Pythagoras theorem Distance between their top AC = 13m.

    Q. Given below are two statements based on the following:
    If A and B are independent events such that P(A)=p,P(B)=2p and P( exactly one of A,B)=59
    Statement I: p=13
    Statement II : p=512
    In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below

    1. Both Statement I and Statement II are true
    2. Both Statement I and Statement II are false
    3. Statement I is true but Statement II is false
    4. Statement I is false but Statement II is true

    Correct Option: 1

    Solution:

    P(A) = p; P (not A) = 1-p

    P(B) = 2p; P (not B) = 1-2p

    Probability (exactly one of A, B) = 5/9

    • P(A). P(not B) + P(not A). P(B) = 5/9
    • p (1-2p) + (1-p).2p = 5/9
    • 3p – 4p2 = 5/9
    • 27p – 36p2 = 5
    • 36p2 – 27p + 5 = 0

    By solving this quadratic equation, p=5/12 or p = 1/3.

    Q. The digit in the unit's place of the number represented by 795-358 is

    1. 0
    2. 4
    3. 6
    4. 7

    Correct Option: 2

    Solution:

    For unit digit, cyclicity of 7 & 3 is 4.

    795 => power 95/4 = rem. 3 => so, power 95 is equivalent to power 3

    358 => power 58/4 = rem. 2 => so, power 58 is equivalent to power 2

    795 - 358 = 73 – 32 = 343 – 9 = 43 – 9 = 34

    So, unit digit = 4

    rain starts full of passengers. At the first station, it drops one third of passengers and takes 280 more. At the second station, it drops one half of the new total and takes 12 more. On arriving at the third station, it is found to have 248 passengers. The number of passengers in the beginning was
    [Question ID =108]

    1. 156
    2. 288
    3. 564
    4. 608

    Correct Option: 2

    Solution:

    Let the total no. of passenger in the beginning = 6x

    First station-

    Dropped passengers = 1/3 (6x) = 2x; Remaining passengers = 4x

    New passengers = 280

    Total passengers = 4x + 280

    Second station-

    Dropped passengers = 1/2 (4x + 280) = 2x + 140;

    Remaining passengers = 2x + 140

    New passengers = 12

    Total passengers = 2x + 152

    Third station-

    Total passengers = 2x + 152 = 248

    X = 48

    Total no. of passengers in the beginning = 6 x 48 = 288

    Q. In a cricket team of 11 players, the average age is 28 years. Out of these, the average ages of three groups of three players each are 25 years, 28 years and 30 years respectively. If in these groups, the captain and the youngest player are not included and the captain is eleven years older than the younger player, then the age of the captain is

    1. 33 years
    2. 34 years
    3. 35 years
    4. 36 years

    Correct Option: 3

    Solution:

    Let the age of the captain = x

    Age of the youngest player = x - 11

    No. of players = 11

    Average age = 28

    Total age of the 11 players = average age x no. of players = 28 x 11 = 308

    No. of players x Average age = Total age

    Group 1 3 25 75

    Group 2 3 28 84

    Group 3 3 30 90

    Total 249

    Total age of 11 players = Total age of (group 1 + group 2 + group 3) + youngest player + captain

    308 = 249 + x + x-11

    2x = 70

    X = 35 years {age of captain}

    1. 26
    2. 35
    3. 53
    4. 62

    Correct Option: 2

    Solution:

    Let the two-digit no. N = ‘ab’ = 10a + b

    Rev. of N = ‘ba’ = 10b + a

    Condition 1: sum of digits = 8

    a + b = 8 …….Equation 1

    Condition 2: N + 18 = Rev. of N

    =>10a + b +18 = 10b + a

    => 9 (b -a) = 18

    => b – a = 2 …….Equation 2

    On solving both equations

    a = 3, b = 5

    So, the number N = 35

    Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow. (3-5)

    Man's growth from barbarism into civilization is supposed to be the theme of history. But sometimes, looking at great stretches of history, it is difficult to believe that we are very much civilized or advanced. There is enough of want of cooperation today as we see one country or people selfishly exploiting another.
    Man in many ways has not made very great progress from other animals. Still, we look down upon the insects as almost the lowest of living things and yet the tiny bees and ants have learnt the art of co-operation and of sacrifice for the common good far better than man. If mutual co-operation and sacrifice for the good of society are the test of civilization, we may say that the bees and ants are superior to man. The old saying goes as follows: "For the family, sacrifice the individual, for the community, the family, for the country, the community, and for the soul, the whole world." It teaches us the lesson of co-operation and sacrifice for the larger good which we may have forgotten. How wonderful it is to see men and women, and boys and girls smilingly going ahead on the path of progress without caring any pain or suffering? Well, may they smile and be glad for the joy of serving a great cause which is theirs; and for those who are fortunate, comes the joy of sacrifice too.

    Q. How can we be truly civilized?

    1. by getting more wealth
    2. by getting more power
    3. by getting higher education
    4. by developing qualities of mutual help

    Correct Option: 4

    Solution:

    By refering to the line, “If mutual cooperation and sacrifice for the good of society are the test of civilization” we can get our answer. The line means that a lack of cooperation and good for society are the challenges that stop man from being truly civilized.

    Q. What is the basic reason of exploitation of one man by another ?

    1. Moral Turpitude
    2. Lack of Education
    3. High Ethics
    4. Weakness of some people

    Correct Option: 1

    Solution:

    First let’s understand the wordTurpitude, which means wicked behavior. Now let’s refer to the line in the 1st para, “there is enough of want of co-operation today as we see one country or people selfishly exploiting another. So it is clear that the only valid reason for the exploitation of one man by another.

    Q. What is the theme of above passage ?

    1. The Rise and Fall of Empires
    2. Man's search for Truth
    3. Man's Moral and Spiritual Development
    4. Man's quest for Idealism
