XAT 2019 Analysis by T.I.M.E. - Part I

Section A: Verbal and Logical Ability

According to T.I.M.E., the VA&LR section was a mixed bag of easy, moderate and difficult questions. The Reading Comprehension questions and Critical Reasoning questions were tough. Although the RC passages were not difficult to comprehend. The vocabulary questions were also easy.

According to the XAT 2019 analysis by T.I.M.E. for the VALR section, the RC based on Mood disorder and Creativity questions were based on critical thinking skills which posed challenges to the test takers. The RC questions based on Art and how…were relatively easier. The RC based on Women’s speech…eloquence had questions which were equally challenging and ambiguous. The RC based on ‘Elevation…’ had direct questions, hence easier than other RC questions. The poem-based questions were challenging which tested one’s understanding of specific parts of the poem.

Out of the four Critical Reasoning questions, two were very easy.

The two Para Formation questions were easy, yet lengthy. "It was relatively challenging to spot the logical connections between the sentences. One of the two should have been surely attempted without going wrong," stated Kanakadandi.

The Vocabulary questions were easy. Both the Cloze passages could be solved with the help of the thought flow of the context. The Logic-based question was easy. "It did not give any context and had five different situations as answer options from which the candidates had to choose the 'least fallacious' one," mentions the expert.

Section B: Decision Making

There were 21 questions in this section from seven sets -  Two sets of two questions each, two sets of four questions each and three sets of three questions each.

XAT 2019 Analysis by T.I.M.E. - Topics and Number of Questions of DM section

Description of Set

Number of Questions

Comments

Set on Limo cars launched in China, not yet launched in India

2

One question of ranking of strategies and one direct course of action question.

Set on HR manager’s role in HR department

4

One direct action step question. Three questions with four options to be arranged in decreasing order of effectiveness

Set on Sanchit Hospitals that wanted good doctors to mentor others

3

All three questions had five options, out of which one was correct (i.e. no ranking of statements)

Set on Icecream Franchisees to be started

4

All four questions had five options, out of which one was correct (i.e. no ranking of statements)

Set on imposition of Drug Testing Code (DTC) on Racket players

3

One question had additional data and was followed by 5 choices. Two questions were based on the information in the main set and had five choices (i.e. no ranking of statements for these 3 questions also)

Set on budget utilization by PR department

2

Both questions had five options, out of which one was correct (i.e. no ranking of statements)

Set on a School where poor children were studying along with affluent children

3

The questions in this set had five choices and were doable.

Although the sets were easy to comprehend, some of the questions were challenging owing to the close options. "As compared to last year, this year’s DM section is a shade tougher, mainly for the reason that the questions that needed one to rank the statements had very close choices. Careful reading was required for all the sets to avoid mistakes," mentions Kanakadandi.

Section C: Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation

The section had few easy and mostly moderate-difficult questions. Most of the questions were tricky and needed conceptual understanding. Some of the questions were calculation intensive.

The section was overall similar in difficulty level compared to last year’s Quant section. There were six questions from two DI sets and both these sets were of moderate difficulty level. In one of the sets involving a Pie-chart, the data on two angles in the chart was missing. The other DI set was relatively time-consuming.

ashutosh gupta 8th Nov, 2019

Hi rohhan

Xat is a national level entrance exam. Through xat you can get admission in best business schools of india like xlri jamshedpur, xmb bhubneshwar and ximb banglore.

You can sum up the marks of all the 6 subjects and than you can find out the percentage or the cgpa whatever the case may be and then you can add the information in the form.

Do we need to fill the college forms before appearing for XAT exam? Also if we missed to fill the college form, we can not apply for any college?

Rehan Alam Student Expert 7th Nov, 2019

Dear Aspirant,

While filling the form candidates will be required to enter their program details which they would like to opt for. Aspirants can choose from the following courses:

  • Business Management

  • Human Resource Management

  • General Management Programme (A minimum of 56 months of work experience is compulsory as on March 31,2020)

  • Fellow Programme in Management

As the candidate will select the programme, the form will ask to fill the first preference of campus for each programme.

So you have to fill the college preference before hand, however there are many other colleges accepting XAT score for whom you do not have to fill the separate forms.

Hope this helps, thanks.

For admission in tapmi 2020 , what is the admission process after appearing cat/xat exam?

ashutosh gupta 9th Nov, 2019
  1. TAPMI eligibility criteria require that the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA
  2. TAPMI uses CAT/XAT/GMAT scores for shortlisting the candidates for Post-graduate Programmes in Management. Accordingly, the candidate should be registered for CAT 2019/XAT 2020 or Taken GMAT and must score well to become eligible for admission.
  3. If the candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence to determine PGDM admission eligibility would be based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university from where the bachelor's degree is obtained. In case the institution/university does not have any scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by TAPMI by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant by 100 to confirm the Admission eligibility of the candidate.
  4. A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results is also eligible to apply for TAPMI Admission 2020.
  5. It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally considered eligible by TAPMI and offered admission, to submit the mark-sheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor's degree examination latest by the stipulated date as announced by TAPMI
