CAT Exam Analysis 2024: IIM Calcutta is expected to conduct CAT 2024 exam on November 24. A detailed CAT 2024 exam analysis will be available after the conclusion of all slots. The CAT exam analysis will focus on the CAT exam difficulty level, changes in CAT paper pattern, number of good attempts and sectional CAT cutoffs.

CAT 2023 Slot 1 Analysis

CAT slot 1 analysis 2023- Key Highlights

  • The CAT 2023 slot 1 exam was based on the last 5 years' CAT question paper pattern. The number of questions in the CAT exam was 66. All the questions in each section of CAT 2023 were similar to the previous year CAT question papers.
  • Based on the CAT slot 1 analysis, the difficulty level of the CAT 2023 exam was moderate. There were no surprise elements and no out-of-the-box questions in the exam.
  • As per the CAT 2023 slot 1 analysis, the CAT previous year questions were repeated in the CAT 2023 question paper this year as well.

CAT slot 1 analysis- VARC section

  • The complete VARC section was moderately difficult.
  • VARC section of CAT slot 1 exam consisted of questions from para jumbles with 2 questions, sentence filling, 2 odd one out and 2 summary questions. There were 4 reading comprehension with 16 questions and 8 questions from verbal ability section.

CAT slot 1 analysis- DILR section

  • DILR section had 4 sets with 5 questions each in CAT 2023 slot 1 exam. As per CAT slot 1 analysis questions were on number breaking, restaurants and ratings, mean, median and mode. 2 sets were doable and 2 sets were difficult in DILR section of CAT 2023.
  • All the sets were a mix of DI and LR topics; the CAT 2023 paper was not dominated by any specific question from any specific topic.

CAT slot 1 analysis- QA section

  • CAT Quant section was dominated by arithmetic (percentage question), algebra, simple interest, compound interest, quadratic and cubic questions. There were 8-9 arithmetic questions and 5-6 algebra questions in CAT 2023.
  • There was a question from Modex that was also repeated in the CAT 2023 question paper.
  • There was one question on numbers mainly on divisibility, coordinate geometry, time and distance, there were no questions on factorial and functions in the CAT exam.

CAT Slot 1 Analysis by IMS

The structure of CAT 2023 remained largely the same as in 2022, with 66 questions in all. However, the DILR and Verbal sections saw some changes in segmentation and the number of MCQs and TITA. Verbal Section saw a minor change in segmentation with the Odd Sentence Questions coming back after 2021. The VA Section had 2 questions each of Summary, Paragraph, Jumbles, Paragraph Completion, and Odd Sentence questions.

CAT Slot 1 Analysis by T.I.M.E

According to CAT 2023 slot 1 analysis by T.I.M.E. the exam seemed tougher compared to CAT 2022, it maintained the familiar structure of the exam from recent years. There weren't any significant surprises in the CAT exam pattern for this slot. However, according to student feedback, the unexpectedly high difficulty might have posed more challenges for those in the morning slot compared to the other two slots.

CAT 2023 slot 1 was difficult with VARC section being easier than CAT 2022 while QA was more difficult. The section-wise level of difficulty was as follows:

CAT 2023 Slot 2 Analysis

  • The CAT 2023 slot 2 was difficult as compared to the CAT slot 1 exam.
  • As per the CAT slot 2 analysis and student's reaction slot 2 of CAT was lengthy and involved a lot of calculation.
  • CAT slot 2 analysis (DILR section)- The DILRI section of CAT slot 2 exam was doable as per the candidates appearing for CAT 2023. The DILR section of CAT slot 2 was moderately difficult again. There was 1 set having questions from medians and boxes which was lengthy apart from that all other sets were doable. Most of the questions were from LR portion. There were no questions from Venn diagrams, linear questions, games and tournaments in CAT slot 2.
  • CAT 2023 slot 2 analysis (VARC section)- The difficulty level of VARC section of CAT slot 2 exam was easy to moderate. As per the CAT 2023 slot 2 analysis, the VARC section had doable questions. There were 4 RC passages, 2 questions from para completion and 4 questions from para jumbles.
  • CAT slot 2 analysis (QA section)- As per the CAT slot 2 analysis, the QA section was moderate. 14-15 questions in CAT slot 2 QA section were doable and 1 sequence and series question was difficult. The CAT slot 2 exam had more arithmetic questions than slot 1. Algebra had more than 8 questions. A few questions were from geometry, 2 from sequence and series, 1 question from logarithm along with time, distance, work and number questions.

In CAT 2023 Slot 2, there was a mandatory VA question that had to be attempted by all the candidates. Overall, the difficulty level of CAT 2023 slot 2 was similar to that of Slot 1.

  • There were a total of 24 questions to be attempted in 40 minutes.
  • 4 questions were non-MCQs or TITA questions.

Section of CAT 2023 Slot 2 was similar to Slot 1 and the previous year's CAT 2022 exam.

The QA section of CAT 2023 Slot 2 was difficult compared to CAT 2022 while there was only a slight increase in difficulty compared to CAT 2023 slot 1.

  • Of the 22 questions, 9-10 questions were doable for the section.
  • The section had 7 non-MCQs or TITA questions.
  • Muck like in Slot 1, the Slot 2 QA section was dominated by Arithmetic followed by Algebra.

  • The CAT 2023 exam was lengthy as well.
  • Only a few questions in each section were doable.

CAT 2023 slot 3 analysis by T.I.M.E.

The evening slot was slightly easier overall compared to the morning slot, despite a relatively tougher Quant section. However, the difference in difficulty was not that significant. Almost all the sections were close to the morning slot in terms of difficulty. This slot did not have any mandatory questions, as was seen in the afternoon slot. Some are speculating that this could have been a technical glitch or an error, but we do not have any conclusive information on it yet.

Overall, the difficulty level of this paper was moderate to difficult.
