ICFAI Business School (IBS) Gurgaon is a private B-School located in Gurgaon, Haryana. IBS Gurgaon offers a two years Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) to the students. In her interview to Careers360, Kratika shares her experience at the IBS. What is student life like at IBS Gurgaon? How did she choose the MBA in Marketing programme at IBS Gurgaon? Careers360: Tell us something about yourself such as from which place are you from?
Answer: I am Kratika Pandey, a native of Kanpur, U.P. My higher education began with a bachelor's degree in fashion and lifestyle design from Banasthali Vidyapith in Jaipur.
Careers360: Presently which course are you pursuing and in which year are you?
Answer: I am pursuing MBA in Marketing from IBS Gurgaon. I am currently completing my summer internship, post that I will enter my second year.
Careers360: Did you face any difficulty in the initial months when you joined the institute?
Answer: In the initial days of college, I did have some apprehensions since I was from a very different background. However, the college held a preparatory session where students like me were prepared to come to ground zero so that the understanding of the management curriculum is better and we are at an equal footing with the rest of the batch.
Careers360: What activities are offered in the institute? Are there any clubs etc for the various extracurricular activities? Which ones have you taken up and are a part of?
Answer: IBS Gurgaon provides a wide range of activities based on the interests of the students. I want to acknowledge how wonderful it is that there is something for everyone. Each student has the option to join a cell or a club, which undoubtedly aids in the holistic growth of an individual. The energy in the campus not only keeps us on our toes to excel in academics, but also provides innumerable opportunities for extra-curricular exposure.
Careers360: Describe a typical day at your institute. What do you do from the time you wake up till you go to sleep?
Answer: A typical day at the institute is a mix of studies, assignments and fun. If there’s the work pressure, which makes us feel loaded with the responsibility of performing well, then there are the days where we have several academic and non-academic activities where we have a lot of fun and stress out from our daily schedule. Each day there is something new to learn, not only from faculty and peers, but from guests from the industry and senior alumni members, all from different industries. There are preparatory sessions, extra-curricular activities and so much more that keeps us busy the entire time.
Careers360: Tell us about the faculty-student ratio here and about the teacher-student relationship in your understanding.
Answer: We have a great student teacher relationship; all the teachers are very understanding and correspond well to any student’s problems in an utmost cooperative manner. They are available to us always and they are our mentors, both inside and outside the classroom. Faculty members are deeply involved in each student’s progress. They also guide, organize and participate in each co-curricular and extra-curricular activity. All this creates a great bond between the students and the teachers.
Careers360: What facilities do you have in the campus? What do you like here the most which you feel is unique and differentiating?
Answer: IBS Gurgaon campus is a very green campus. The classrooms have the latest technology screens and the material taught is also available on the portal for easy access for students. The whole campus has wi-fi. We have a seminar room and an auditorium where events and guest interactions are conducted. The computer center and library have the latest technology and are accessible to all students. We also have a language lab. The canteen offers a variety of food and beverages. Campus has facilities for both indoor and outdoor games like cricket, football, tennis, badminton and more. The most unique thing is that the campus is always active with simultaneous things happening at the campus and we have so many opportunities to learn from each of them.
Careers360: What about the medical facilities? Can you avail requisite medical attention if needed in an emergency?
Answer: The campus has a medical room. A doctor and a nurse are available to address any kind of emergency. The campus has vehicles to ferry patients, if needed, to the nearby hospitals.
Careers360: Tell us about the clubs and societies at the campus and how significant are they from your point of view or students point of view?
Answer: There are more than 20 clubs in IBS Gurgaon. Each student finds one or the other based on their interest. A few like to be a part of more than one club too. All these activities are fun, but at the same time very much linked with the management curriculum we study in the classroom. It is therefore very important for all students to participate in these clubs so that we can hands-on experience the theory by the way of practicing it.
Careers360: Is there any in-house magazine or journal for the latest events or happenings at the institute?
Answer: IBS Gurgaon has an in-house journal called Samvaad. This is a quarterly magazine that covers all that happens at the campus, both from the faculty and staff point of view and the student point of view. Students and faculty members also contribute to the content of the journal by writing articles and expressing their thoughts.
Careers360: Do you have any Facebook page of your campus where the students express their views, jokes or ideas, or maybe even a blog where they write about their experience of life at campus?
Answer: Yes, IBS Gurgaon has a facebook page. All activities and events are posted there. Students also express themselves and interact on this platform.
Careers360: What type of companies come for campus recruitment and what percentage of students get placed every year? How is the recruitment process here?
Answer: More than 98% of students get placed in very good organizations every year. Many sectors like consultancy, research, media, Analytics, IT/ITES, E-commerce, BFSI and many more come to the campus to hire in good numbers, including the big four. The campus has a placement team which works throughout to maintain relations with the industry and get good profiles and packages to the campus.

Due to research there infrastructure is average. Free WiFi available in all over the campus. Small badminton and cricket area available. Faculties are well qualified and helpful. And the Highest package of salary there 15 lpa and average package of salary there 3lpa.
Now come to the IMT Hyderabad. This is institute of management technology college. This is also private MBA college but AICTE approved. And it was established in 2001. The college rank 52 in all over MBA colleges. Due to research the college infrastructure is very big and well organised. Cafeteria area is good. Faculties are well educated and helpful. And the highest package of salary there 17 lpa and average package of salary here 5 lpa. Almost 96% students got placed in every year.
