Important Concept/Formula Used in circle questions for CAT exam
Circle questions and answers are based on:
Sector and Segment
Areas related to Sector and Segment
Tangent, Secant and Chord
Congruency of Circles
Cyclic Quadrilateral
CAT Previous Year Questions On Circle (Geometry):
CAT circle questions with solutions are given below:
Q1. CAT Questions on Circles:
AB is a diameter of a circle of radius 5 cm. Let P and Q be two points on the circle so that the length of PB is 6 cm, and the length of AP is twice that of AQ. Then the length, in cm, of QB is nearest to [CAT 2019]
Ans: [1]
APB and AQB are semicircular Arc
Angle APB = angle AQB = 90o
Using Pythagoras
AP2 = 102 - 62
⇒ AP = 8cm
⇒ AQ = AP/2 = 4cm
Again, Using Pythagoras
QB2 = 102 – 42
⇒ QB = 9.1 cm (Approx)
Q2. CAT Questions on Circles are given below:
ABCD is a quadrilateral inscribed in a circle with centre O. If ∠COD = 120 degrees and ∠BAC = 30 degrees, then the value of ∠BCD (in degrees) is [TITA, CAT 2017]
Solution: 90 degrees
See the diagram above (As per question)
angle (BDC) = angle (BAC) = 300 (angles made by same arc on same side of the arc are equal)
Also, OD = OC (Radius of circle)
So, angle (ODC) = angle (OCD) = 300
Now, angle (BOC) = 1800 - angle (DOC) = 1800 – 1200 = 600 (Linear pair angles)
angle (BCO) = angle (OBC) (since OB= OC; radii)
angle (BCO) = (1800 – 600)/2 = 600
Also,
angle (BCD) = angle (OCD) + angle (OCB) = 300 + 600 = 900
Answer: 90 degrees
Tips to solve circle questions:
Learn Important Properties of Circle
Area = πr2, r is the radius of circle
Circumference = 2πr
Length of Arc = θ/360× 2πr; θ is the angle made by arc at the centre.
Two circles are congruent if they have equal radii.
Learn Properties related to Chord
Properties related to Cyclic Quadrilateral
Sum of opposite angles is 180 degrees.
Properties related to Tangents and Secants

CAT 2024 Syllabus Topic: Strategy to prepare “Games and Tournaments (Part-2)” for CAT
Tips and Tricks for CAT Games and Tournaments through Previous Years Questions from CAT/ MBA Entrance Exam:
Passage: In an 8 X 8 chessboard a queen placed anywhere can attack another piece if the piece is present in the same row, or in the same column or in any diagonal position in any possible 4 directions, provided there is no other piece in between in the path from the queen to that piece.
The columns are labelled a to h (left to right) and the rows are numbered 1 to 8 (bottom to top). The position of a piece is given by the combination of column and row labels. For example, position c5 means that the piece is in cth column and 5th row. [CAT 2017]
Question1: If the queen is at c5, and the other pieces are at positions c2, g1, g3, g5 and a3, how many are under attack by the queen? There are no other pieces on the board.

Ans: [c]
CAT Tip 1: Draw an 8x8 matrix and Arrange Queen first.
CAT Tip 2: Arrange the other pieces and try to join them diagonally, vertically or horizontally.
Clearly, four pieces are under attack.

CAT Tip 2: Analyze the total after round 6 and round 10 (Easy Finings)
B must be scored 1and 1 in R1 and R2 respectively
G must have scored 0 in R7
D must score 0 in R9 and R10
E must score 7 in R10
J must score 7 and 7 in R5 and R6 both
CAT Tip 3: Use Additional Information and fill the table simultaneously(shown in red colour)
Top 3 performaces awarded 7, 3 and 1 in each round.
In R1; only A can get 7. So, in R6 A will get 1.
I will get 1 in each of the round R4 and R5 (Since in R6, A get 1)
H will get 1 in R3
G must score 7 in R2 and R4. Also scored 3 in R6. ( Since G can not score in consecutive rounds)
F scored 7 in R3. E scored 3 in the same round.
F scored a 3 in R5 and D scored a 3 in R4 (Solving puzzle)
A scored 3 in R10 since 7 is scored by E
C must score 1 in each of rounds R8, R9 and R10
I should have scored 1, 7 and 7 in R7, R8 and R9 respectively. So, A will score 7 in R7.
J score 3 in R7; H scored 3 in R8; B scored 3 in R9.
The final Table will look as shown above.

In CAT registration, you cannot create a new user ID with the same mobile number, even if you use a different email ID. Each mobile number and email can be linked to only one account. If you already registered once, the system will not accept a duplicate with that number. To register again, you must use a new mobile number and new email ID. If you lost your old login, you can recover it through the forgot password/user ID option on the CAT portal.
Yes, you can fill the CAT form even if you currently have a backlog. CAT eligibility requires you to be in your final year of graduation or already graduated backlogs don’t stop you from applying.
While filling the form:
Enter the aggregate percentage/CGPA of marks you have obtained up to the latest semester for which results are declared (in your case till 4th semester).
There will be an option to mention that you have a backlog.
If you clear the backlog later, you’ll just need to show the updated marks during admission.
Hello Aspirant,
Yes, you can apply for the CAT exam as a final-year student. You must declare your backlog on the online application form. You do not write about it on the final-year student certificate; that document is to certify your enrollment status. You must clear all backlogs before the final admission process to any MBA college.
Hello,
Thank you for your question!
KL- MAT syllabus: Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, English/Verbal Ability, and General Awareness (similar to MAT/CMAT pattern).
CAT scores are valid in many private universities including KL University, but always check the year’s admission notification.
CAT vs other exams: CAT is toughest (IIMs + top B-schools), while MAT/CMAT/ATMA are relatively easier and accepted by many mid-level private universities.
