Read Reeka’s full interview below.
Careers360: Why XLRI over other B-schools?
Reeka: XLRI is one of the top five business schools in India, and I have always dreamed of joining one. It also offers one of the best HRM programs in Asia.
Careers360: When did you start preparing for XAT?
Reeka: I started preparing for my management entrance exams around a year before the test. This was mainly because I also needed to juggle my college life and studies as well.
Careers360: What is your take on XAT test pattern? Should the authorities switch to the previous pattern or the changed pattern is good?
Reeka: I think the XAT test pattern is a pretty well-designed test to judge your overall aptitude. It takes into account your verbal skills as well as quantitative ones. It also tests how well you are able to handle difficult situations in your workplace and whether you keep abreast of current affairs.
Careers360: Please share your section wise preparation strategy?
Reeka: I mainly checked out the previous years’ question papers for all sections. For QA and DI especially, I practised a lot regularly. I also read the newspapers to keep in touch with what is happening in the world.
Careers360: How did you manage your time during the test?
Reeka: I started with the section which I knew would be the most time-consuming for me, and then gradually moved towards the others where I was more comfortable.
Careers360: What were your strong and weak areas? How did you tackle your weak area of the test?
Reeka: My strongest area is verbal ability. Decision making was slightly complicated for me as I have no work experience. I solved enough questions from previous years’ papers and relied a lot on my common sense.
Careers360: Your message/tip for this year’s XAT aspirants?
Reeka: Practice previous years’ papers. Focus on your strong areas and try to improve on your weak areas. And last but not the least, stay calm and confident.
