As can be seen in the above table, the programme name and structure and fee are varied. The eligibility criteria and selection procedure is more or less similar in the top B-schools. Based on your preference in terms of mode and duration, you can choose the right Executive MBA from the wide array of Executive MBA programmes.

Apart from the above mentioned fast facts, the working executives often look for an extra edge in the programmes designed by the top B-schools which would make their Executive MBA worth the experience and investment. While some institutes emphasize on international exposure, some focus on being more rooted towards the ground by making rural immersion as the integral part of curriculum. These are the USPs which makes the institutes among the top B-schools offering Executive management programmes.

International Exposure

The following B-schools have international immersion as part of their curriculum either through exchange programmes or international internship or offering programmes in collaboration with foreign universities/institutes.

IIM Ahmedabad – In the 1 year full time PGPX programme, students have to spend 2 weeks in an international location. “This segment equips students with understanding of macro-level dynamics and unfamiliar economic environment in a foreign country,” states IIM Ahmedabad.

IIM Bangalore – In the third term of the 1 year EPGP, students are given an exposure opportunity in emerging economies like China, Russia, Brazil and South Africa or a developed one in the Asian region like Singapore or South Korea. “The module provides insights into the country’s economic, social, political and cultural life,” mentions IIM Bangalore.

IIM Calcutta – The students need to undertake an international project or an associated study tour for a period of 2 weeks. The international immersion takes place across top American, European and Australian B-schools.

IIM Shillong – The PGPEx programme offered by IIM Shillong focuses on ‘Managing Business in India and China’. IIM Shillong and the Ocean University China have collaborated to bring forth this programme. IIM Shillong mentions, “Emergence of India and China as major forces in the contemporary global economy is one of the most significant development of the past quarter century. Their continued growth is likely to influence the course of the future world economy. The programme is designed to provide General Management education in context of the emerging economies, in specific context of the host Institution Countries, so as to uniquely prepare leaders to conduct business in such economies.”

IIM Udaipur – The PGPX offered by IIM Udaipur is a Dual Degree programme in Supply Chain Management in association with Purdue University, USA. Commenting on the programme structure, IIM Udaipur states, “The students spend the fall module in Purdue University, USA for their international immersion segment. The coursework also requires the completion of an internship lasting for a total of eight weeks. The students are awarded with both the PGPX Diploma from IIM Udaipur and a MS degree from Purdue.”

Indian School of Business (ISB) – In the flagship Post Graduate Programme in Management at ISB, there are Inbound and Outbound Exchange programmes. The institute has partnered with 42 B-schools across countries like the USA, France, South Africa, Israel, Germany, China, Pakistan, South Korea, Singapore and the U.K, Canada, Italy, Australia, Spain, Switzerland, Chile, Netherlands, Germany and Taiwan. “Students from international schools visit the ISB campus, which adds to the diversity and peer-learning experience on campus,” mentions ISB.

IMT Ghaziabad – The PGDM Executive programme focuses in Student Exchange Programme with international B-schools. The students are also taught by international faculty members. According to IMT Ghaziabad, this enables students to develop cross cultural insights and perspectives to better understand global business.

Rural Immersion

Rural immersion or learning from the grass root level is enabled in the B-schools like XLRI Jamshedpur and Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai.

XLRI Jamshedpur - Under the Rural/Village exposure programme, the General Management Programme students are to identify the problems of the people of a particular village and then suggest solutions. Students then design business modules. According to XLRI, the rural exposure Program helps the managers to understand the needs of the local people and provide solutions to their problems. “The intent of this program is to train students to understand the problems of rural India and address them in a better way, it is mandatory for students to spend a few days in the rural parts of India,” mentions XLRI Jamshedpur.

Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai - The 1 year Post Graduate programme consists of Karmayoga or Leadership Experiential Program (LEP) as an integral part of the programme. In this project, students connect to the ground realities and learn leadership skills experientially. The B-School has adopted 21 villages surrounding the campus. The objective of the Karmayoga or LEP is to enhance the self-esteem and self-efficacy of the villagers, so that they experience better standard of living. “Karma Yoga is a real life practical lab to learn and experience the power of transformational leadership. In this attempt by Great Lakers to transform people belonging to nearby villages, the key focus has been in the fields of education, health, agriculture, and small business,” mentions Great Lakes Institute of Management.

Industry Exposure

IIM Bangalore – The B-School has an alumni-EPGP student engagement initiative, named Shikshu, which means apprentice in Sanskrit. Here EPGP students will get the opportunity to experience how CEO’s office works. IIM Bangalore describes Shikshu as, “Several IIMB’s alumni, who work at the top echelons of various reputed organizations, mentor the EPGP students, who spend a day at the offices of the alumni, attend meetings and interact with the senior most executives of these offices.”

ISB Hyderabad – ISB integrates applied learning through Practicum courses. In the Experiential Learning Programme, students prepare a consulting proposal for the client (scope of work, timeline etc.), make the necessary primary/secondary research and prepare a final report and present findings with recommendations to the client. Many companies also use this programme as their pre-recruitment exercise. Speaking about the objective of ELP, ISB mentions, “The Experiential Learning Program is a live consulting engagement undertaken by students as part of their elective curriculum. The initiative is designed to combine the diverse experience of the students and their deep domain expertise to offer increased value to clients. The key objective of the ELP is to provide students the opportunity to work directly with companies in real-time and gain additional hands-on experience.”

MISB Bocconi, Mumbai – The MISB Bocconi, Mumbai offers International Executive Masters in Business programme in association with the Future Group. It is a part time 18 month Master’s Program which provides participants the opportunity to meet and network with industry peers in Milan and in Mumbai.
