As per the experts, the Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning section was slightly easier in the CAT 2017 slot 2 while the Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension was similar to the first slot. Let’s take a look at the CAT section-wise analysis for slot 2.

 

CAT 2017 Slot 2 Analysis - Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension

 

The VARC section was similar to that of the first slot. The questions were either direct or inference based. TITA or non-MCQs were from the Verbal Ability or English Usage area. However, the English Usage questions were easy to moderate in terms of difficulty.

 

The topics covered for the English Usage part included vocabulary and the question types were fill in the blanks, sentence correction, para jumbles, odd man out etc. There were no questions on grammar. Refer to the below table for the number of questions and topics.

CAT 2017 Slot 2 Analysis - Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning

 

As per the experts' feedback, the DI & LR section was slightly easier compared to the first slot due to which marks may go up by 3 to 4 times. However, the overall difficulty level of the DI & LR section is classified as tough. Few students also claimed that the section was tough and hence they faced problem in solving them.

CAT 2017 Slot 2 Analysis - Quantitative Ability

 

The QA section which was termed to be easy in the first slot turned out to be easy in the second slot as well. According to Arks Srinivas, CEO Vistamind, " QA was easy in both the slots, the surprising element in CAT 2017 was the quant section which turned out to be easy in terms of difficulty level. It was similar to the one witnessed in CAT 2015".

Around two lakh candidates appeared for the exam out of 2,31,067 applicants. The expected CAT 2017 cutoff will depend on the difficulty level.  The CAT 2017 result will be declared in the second week of January 2018. IIM Lucknow is the conducting body of CAT 2017.
