Careers360 brings an interview with Yogesh, an alumnus of Silver Oak Institute of Business Management. Yogesh shares details about the campus, memorable experiences and the course at Silver Oak Institute of Business Management. Go through the interview to learn more about campus life and experiences from a student's perspective.
Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. (a bit of the background like graduation, place and any such thing)
Yogesh: My name is Yogesh. I have completed my Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) from Silver Oak Institute of Business Management. During my academic journey, I built a strong foundation in core business disciplines such as marketing, finance, human resource management, and organizational behaviour. My studies also enhanced my analytical thinking, communication skills, and strategic decision-making abilities.
Careers360: Tell us something about your SOU campus and what made you choose it
Yogesh: “I chose the Silver Oak Institute of Business Management on Silver Oak University's Ahmedabad campus because it offers a living, future-focused learning environment. The campus features modern labs, smart classrooms, and the IGNITE Incubation Centre, which really supports hands-on learning and innovation. I appreciated the flexible, dual-specialization curriculum—covering areas like AI, FinTech, and analytics—that aligns well with industry trends. The strong industry connections, through guest lectures, internships, and live projects, ensure that I’m not just learning in the classroom but applying my skills in real-world contexts. The vibrant campus life—with clubs, sports, and cultural events—adds to a well-rounded experience. All these factors made SOIBM the ideal choice for me.”
Careers360: What is the course you are pursuing at SOU and what made you choose this specialisation?
Yogesh: “I’m enrolled in SOIBM’s two-year AICTE-approved PGDM with dual specialisations in Finance and IT. I chose Finance to master areas like security analysis, risk management, and corporate taxation—skills vital for a career in financial services. My second specialisation, IT aligns with my interest in data-driven decision-making and emerging technologies like AI and ERP. This blend gives me the best of both worlds: strategic financial acumen and technological insight, supported by a mix of internships and hands-on projects. It felt like the perfect combination to prepare me for a versatile and future-ready career.”
Careers360: Summer internship is mandatory in SOU campus. Where did you pursue it and what was the duration? What were the steps to get into it?
Yogesh: At SOIBM, a stipend based summer internship is a mandatory component of the PGDM program after the first year. I completed mine at Adani Skill Development Centre, which I secured through the institute, drive organized by the Training & Placement Cell. The process involved registration via the campus portal, attending pre-placement talks, shortlisting, and on-campus interviews. After accepting the offer, I was assigned a faculty mentor for academic guidance throughout the internship. I successfully completed my assigned project, submitted a detailed Summer Internship Project (SIP) report, and delivered a formal presentation on campus.
Careers360: Please give details on the assistance you received from the faculty, peers and placement office with regard to the internships?
Yogesh: “At SOIBM, the faculty, peers, and placement cell work together to ensure meaningful internship experiences. A dedicated faculty mentor guided me through project scope, helped refine my SIP report, and assisted in my final presentation. My peers were great sounding boards—sharing résumé formats, internship alerts, and interview tips. And the T&P Cell played a central role: organised shortlisting and interview rounds, conducted mock sessions, and provided career counselling. Equipped with computer labs, seminar halls, and interview rooms, they ensured we were well-prepared and confident before stepping into the corporate world.”
Careers360: How was your experience with the summer internships? What are the key takeaways that you can look back on from it?
Yogesh: “My paid Summer Internship, undertaken through SOIBM’s ‘Earn While You Learn’ initiative, was a truly transformative experience. I had the opportunity to apply finance and analytics concepts to real-world business challenges, which helped me develop strong analytical, teamwork, and presentation skills. Guided by a dedicated faculty mentor, I received continuous support and feedback throughout the process. Peer collaboration—through résumé reviews and mock interviews—further sharpened my professional readiness. Completing the SIP, presenting it on campus, and earning a stipend significantly boosted my confidence. This well-structured, industry-aligned experience not only made me more workplace-ready but also reaffirmed my decision to pursue SOIBM’s hands-on, experiential learning approach.”
