your academic background matters but more than that your percentile in CAT entrance exam matters so for getting admission in IIM's you have to score more than 99%ile and clear their GD/PI round as well with good performance

JBIMS no longer acceps MAT score for admission. It is used to do 2-3 years back. Now only CAT and CET scores are accepted. Hope this helps.
