i am hindi background student and i am in 3rd year and i dont understand the English. can i crack cat in one year ?? I taken one year gap for cat preparation.. please help me for how to improve English.

Ishita 7th Jul, 2024

Hello Aspirant

Who said you don't English? You wrote your problem on CAREERS360 with minimal grammar mistakes, this proves you have your basics clear in English. You can absolutely clear CAT with one year of preparations. Start your preparations from the day you decide you want to clear CAT.

Tips to improve English-

1) Start reading novels, poems, prose, news articles, and short stories. Reading helps you work on your vocabulary a lot. Never stop reading, whatever interests you.

2) Watch Hollywood movies, YouTube interviews in English with subtitles on.

3) Read WORD MADE EASY by Norman Lewis. This book is the Holy Grail for any CAT aspirant.

4) Think in English. I know many people say 'speak in English' but I know it's not easy for us Indians to find people who are willing to in English with us and we don't feel comfortable when we are not confident. But start thinking in English. This proved to help me a lot.

Hope this helps

Is cat score accepted in USMS University School of Management Studies ? if yes how much percentile is required to get admission ?

shivamtrivedi0005 23rd Sep, 2023

Hello aspirant,

A variety of postgraduate programs are offered at the GGS IP University Delhi's University School of Management Studies. Candidates must fulfill the eligibility requirements and submit the college's application form in order to be considered for USMS IPU Delhi Admissions. When deciding whether to admit a student to USMS IPU Delhi, the results of the CAT, CMAT, and IPU CET are taken into consideration.

Candidates who wish to enroll in this college must take the CAT, CMAT, or IPU CET and receive a passing score. According to their CAT percentile, candidates will be shortlisted, and those who make the cut will be contacted for counseling sessions. In the event that there are still open seats following CAT counseling, CMAT counseling will be held.

how much percentile is necessary for obcs

Rajeswari Dey 10th Apr, 2025

Hi aspirant,

For OBC applicants aspiring for IIMs, a CAT percentile of 80-85 or higher is generally regarded as an acceptable benchmark. While the exact minimum varies, a percentile of 80 or greater is frequently given as a qualifying standard for OBC candidates at various IIMs. To boost your chances of obtaining a call from a top IIM, strive for a percentile of 90 or above.

All the best!

I got 96% in cbse class 12th and 86% in cbse class 12th(Science-PCM). I am B.tech Graduate. Can I get the IIM Bangalore call if I score above 99.90%ile in CAT

Garima Sihag 7th May, 2024

Yes, scoring above 99.9 percentile in CAT significantly increases your chances of getting a call from IIM Bangalore,  with your academic background. Here's why:

  • High CAT Score: A score exceeding  99.9 percentile is exceptional and puts you amongst the top candidates vying for admission. IIM Bangalore prioritizes  CAT scores heavily in the shortlisting process.

  • Strong Academics: Your 96% in CBSE 12th and a B.Tech degree demonstrate a solid academic foundation, which IIM Bangalore also considers during shortlisting.

However, the shortlisting process is multifaceted:

  • Other Factors: IIM Bangalore considers other factors beyond CAT scores, such as your work experience (if any), XAT score (if you appear for it), academic diversity, gender diversity, and performance in the interview and Written Ability Test (WAT) stages (if shortlisted).

Here's what you can do to strengthen your application:

  • Focus on WAT and PI: If you receive a shortlist, prepare extensively for the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). These stages assess your communication, soft skills, leadership potential, and suitability for the program.

  • Work Experience (if applicable): If you have work experience, highlight your achievements and how they align with your chosen IIM Bangalore program.

Overall, with a stellar CAT score and a strong academic background, you have a very good chance of getting a call from IIM Bangalore. But remember to prepare comprehensively for the other stages of the selection process.
