different IITS accept different CAT scores however none of them except less than 90 atleast 

IIT B - 98.
IIT D- 90 
IIT M- 95.2 
IIT Kgp - 90 
IIT K- 92 
IIT R - 91 

however with 88.51 you can get admission into some of the good B-schools

Well, to answer your first question, you definitely have to start your preparations early for the CAT exam if you wish to get into IIMs. I would suggest getting a couple of years of post qualification work experience under your belt before applying to a reputed B school.
