    Classification of Numbers

Real Numbers: Numbers that can be represented on Number Line also known as Real Line and represented as R.

    Example: -1, \pi, 0, \frac12, 1, \sqrt{2}\ldots

Imaginary Number: Numbers that is expressed in terms of the square root of a negative number and represented as Z.

    Example: \sqrt{-2}, \;\;3+\sqrt{-5}\ldots

Rational Number: Number that can be expressed in the form of \frac pq where q\neq0.

    Example: \frac23, -\frac78,0.333\ldots,\frac{22}{7}, \ldots

Irrational Number: Number that can not be expressed in the form of \frac pq where q\neq0.

    Example: \pi, \sqrt{5},\sqrt{17},\ldots

Fractions: A fraction simply tells us how many parts of a whole we have. You can recognize a fraction by the slash that is written between the two numbers. We have a top number, the numerator, and a bottom number, the denominator.

    Example: \frac{1}{2}, \frac{8}{7}\ldots

Integer: An integer is a number that has no fractional part, and no digits after the decimal point. It can be positive, negative or zero and represented as I.

    Example: -5, -2, 0, 3 ,8

Natural Number: A part of the number system which includes all the positive integers from 1 to till infinity. It is an integer which is always greater than zero(0).

Whole Number: Whole numbers are all positive integers, including zero.

Natural Numbers can be classified as

Prime Number: Prime numbers are those numbers which is greater than 1, and have only two factors – 1 and the number itself. Prime numbers are divisible only by the number 1 or itself.

Example: 2, 3, 5, 7, and 11 are the first few prime numbers.

Composite Number: Numbers having more than two factors are called composite numbers.

    Example: 4, 6, 9, 10, and 15 are a few examples of composite numbers.

The Integers can be classified as

Odd Numbers: A whole number that is not exactly divisible by 2 is called an odd number.

    For example: 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, are odd number.

Or a number having 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 at its units place is called an odd number.

Even Numbers: A whole number exactly divisible by 2 is called an even number.

    For example: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16..........................are even number.
